Well I am looking for RTS because I have played WAYYYYYY to many TBS 4X games like MoO2, MoO3, MoO2, MoO3.... they are so fun I have played them at least a good 60+ hours
I also played Sins, Starwars Empire at War, Homeworld, Dyson, Galciv 1and looking into Number 2.

wow, that doesnt seem like much for a 4x.  i've probalby played civ1 for hundred of hours, and the same for SMAC.  I played Space Empires 4 for something close to five years, averaging maybe 3 hours a week.  i guess that comes out to 720, though it feels like it was more.  there were definitly some longer periods when i was into modding the thing and was playing 3 online games at once.

i too would like to find something a little faster paced and simplified.  "dumbed down" if you will.  Sins sort of delivered that, but somehow it just wasnt any fun. i want to play some sort of space strategy "light" with lots of ka-blam.

That "light of altair" thing might deliver.  have to check it out.

I just tried it, but didn't care for it much. Its more of a base building game than anything else. However I only played up until I saw combat and was disappointed by it so I haven't seen the whole picture.

Most RTS are in theory dumbed-down, smaller scale, real time 4x games... you explore (the smallish map), expand (make more buildings, enlarge your influence area, walls, etc. or even make more independent strongholds), exploit (collect resources of various kinds) and exterminate. The expand part is usually the most limiting factor, since taking care of various separate population centers in real time is a pain.

The closest thing to a (non-space) RTS 4X is Kohan (I prefer the 1st as there is no restriction as to where you can build more cities). There are some abandonware titles like Fragile Allegiance or Ascendancy, and Imperium Galactica that are real time too, but there's more waiting than action. Reunion and Alien Legacy had some colony building and production aspects. All of these are sci-fi and in space.

Alien Legacy

One of my favorite games.  Combines colony building and exploration with almost adventure-game elements...okay, not really, but there definitely is a plot that's a lot of fun to figure out.

Not an RTS by any stretch though...although it does fulfill the first three X's of 4X admirably.  The fourth X is a little iffy, but it's good that way.  :D

You're right, it didn't have much in the way of warfare (it was mostly exploration of a stellar system and yelling at space bats that came to crap on your colonies or something). But Ascendancy would qualify, I would think.

Oh damn, I forgot about that game. It's one of the best RTS games. I didn't liked Kohan 2. that much, part 1. was much better.

How about X? X3 reunion is the latest I think. It is pretty action oriented and you can build factories etc.
At least one step closer towards eXpand from freelancer.
