[40d11] Can claim friendly's worn equipment
« on: June 06, 2009, 03:39:22 pm »

I'm guessing it's a bug of some sort, at least. Embarked on top of a goblin fort, gobbos were friendly, after a bit I tried un-forbidding a crossbow goblin's weapon. It worked, so I pulled up stocks, claimed every piece of equipment the goblins had.

Dwarves are currently in the process of apparently stripping the goblins where they stand and stuffing their junk in bins. Traders are going to be happy, at least.

The bug here is not that you can claim their equipment, but that they don't rage at you when you do.

Technically, the bug is that starting a fort on an existing location is not really handled by the game at all -- IIRC Toady planned to remove it at one point, but I think he eventually decided not to (or at least to delay it) because, hey, it's fun to fool around with and gives you some interesting stuff to start your fortress from.

But basically, when you embark on top of an existing settlement, nothing is going to quite behave right.

(Although come to think of it, I guess this is a separate known issue.  You can also do it with merchants and their guards...  oh well.  In that case your ability to "confiscate" stuff makes more sense, and I believe they do get angry when they leave -- merchants do this calculation when they leave the map based on the wealth they came in with verses the wealth they left with, and if the difference is too badly against them, they get angry.)

There are some other "fun" issues I had with Dark Towers and the like.

All the goblins (and their human / dwarven / elven brainwashed compatriots) suddenly getting aggro on you the moment you have your first goblin siege, for example. Even though they are mostly naked and near your champion-level steel-clad wrestlers, marksdwarves and hammerdwarves. Carnage ensues.

Also, the towers not counting as "inside" for the purpose of the "Dwarves stay inside" setting, leading to all of them (besides the military) basically freezing in place until they die of hunger and thirst.

This has worked with caravans for ages now.

You can strip every caravan guard of his armor and weapons and they won't mind. Select the items to be dumped and have a dump zone right next to the depot, and then just reclaim the pile of items and your dwarves will run off to store them in bins in your stockpiles.

How do you take their stuff from inventory.
PS:I live with elves with steel weapons and I want them.
Edit:Nvm I figured it out.
