yes, yes dwarves i get it...
« on: June 06, 2009, 04:25:29 am »

Elves suffering is truly funny and merits an occasional engraving, but.....

HALF OF THE ENGRAVINGS CREATED!!!???

you've got;

elves withering away
elves in fetal positions
elves striking down elves
mules striking down elves
horses striking down elves
donkeys striking down elves
camels striking down elves
goblins striking down elves
goblins shooting elves
Humans striking down elves(where did that happen ???)
Dwarves striking down elves(okay, now you're just making things up :-\)
and various other misfortunes happening to elves

Its even on my freaking artifacts, by Armok!

on another note, how much food is the best amount per dwarf?
i've got 100 dwarves, and at least 10000 food and 7000 booze, and i always buy all the food the caravans have

do i have to much?

Good lord you have a lot of food.

I have a fort of 211 dwarves and I do just fine with around 2500 of each.

well, i kinda feel that when the 100-odd goblin siege comes, we'll just wall up, and rely on the huge stores to tide us over until the under ground farms get going full.

You have 10000 food and your farms aren't going "full"...

I had to scale my farming operation back a ton in order to prevent my stockpiles from overflowing.

Sorry to say, but you're sort of doing it wrong. Instead of walling up, you need a way of getting rid of sieges. It is my understanding that if you don't, they'll just hang around your map indefinitely.

Also, in the future you might consider selling food as well. Stacks of lavish meals usually go for 4 figures, allowing you to easily buy up everything a caravan offers.

Sieges do leave eventually, but it takes a long time.

News to me, so I figure I stand corrected. Also, how long is "a long time"? Because if that means several seasons (ergo running the risk of slaughtering incoming caravans) my point still stands.

I'm fairly sure it's at least one season, i know i've had Orcs arrive in Winter and chill outside my fort until mid-to-late spring before leaving.

In my experience, caravans may only arrive at the same time as a siege-not DURING the siege. Generally they'll sit around for one season, but humans can last longer.

And seriously, just take five dwarves and train them into champions with legendary wrestling, both shield and armor using, and several weapon skills. They'll mop up goblin sieges in no time if they have good armor and weapons. Or maybe even if they don't-I;ve had mine kill goblins easily using SILVER hammers (not on purpose, mind you). It's easier than waiting out the siege, and goblins are a joke anyway.

Fight off the sieges by exploding all the booze at once. I wonder what kind of engravings that will produce?
