Tower Caps for Fun and Profit
« on: June 05, 2009, 12:07:56 pm »

Anybody got a clear understanding on how to make tower cap farms?  I'm running dangerously short on above-ground wood.

Do you have an underground river and some underground soil or mud?

I have an aboveground river I can access underground.  Does that count?

1: Have an Underground river or pool, no, an above ground river that you divert underground does not count.
2: You must have either:
2a:Underground soil in a dark area.
2b:Any type of muddied rock/soil, free of any obstructions to growth, aka, the rock you get from mining.
3:Once these things are combined, and the river/pool is uncovered of course, you can begin your tower-cap farming, ground must be muddied once a year iirc, you will have very little growth on non-muddy soil, and no growth on non-muddy rock.

and the river/pool is uncovered of course,

Due to mining, not Reveal. A very important detail.

Apparently not true,  I've recently discovered.  I muddied a LARGE area,  then waited a time, and  'H'id the stones laying about.  There were a LOT of Tower Cap Saplings underneath.

Don't think they'll develop into full tower caps unless those stones are removed. Would love it if I were proven wrong- dumping thousands of stones to prepare an area for cap farming takes a ton of time and dwarfpower.

Or you could just recruit a whole squad of dabbling miners for the process.
The easiest way probably would be to muddy a huge area of soil. no stone removal involved.

I'm going to go ahead and presume he's referring to this thread, though I didn't actually read it, it is a thread in his name about planters not planting...
