Can't assign beds

Since the baron, baroness, and tax collector have moved in, I've only had 2 pages of dwarves available on my bed assignment list (the whole crew is something like 8 pages of furniture lines).  Is this because the cash economy started, or a bug?  I can assign any other sort of furniture.

Once the economy starts (which happens when the tax collector arrives), dwarves will choose rooms for themselves based on what they can afford (with legendary dwarves of any type able to just take what they want). So, not a bug.
