Peter Molyneux, you cheeky little rascal.
« on: June 04, 2009, 02:46:52 pm »

How many times can you promise the world and fail to deliver before we figure out your game?

This time he's created a virtual child, who recognizes your face and knows you by name, can carry out realistic conversations, and reacts emotionally to what you say.  Coming from him, this claim is about as absurd as it can get without him telling you he's invented a holodeck.

I really hope it pans out though, I will traumatize that kid so bad.

What do you think?

They need to have two big men behind him at all times that punch him simultaneously in both temples every time he starts to go overboard on a speech.

Still a good game though.

That would be pretty awesome.

That would be the speech he ever made then. :(

Oh Jesus, Molyneux.

Either he's really, really overdone himself with this project, or that last line was redundant.  Then again I really had my hopes up for Project EgoFable.

You know, ten years or so after Black & White, I would have believed enough AI updates that your creature could play a map essentially on its own, and actually follow your style.  I would have believed if they spent a lot of effort on voice commands and learning so that your could learn, say, twenty or thirty non-pre-programmed voice commands that you teach it entirely yourself, while maybe even detecting your emotional state a little.

THIS, I can't believe.  Twenty years from now, perhaps the first clunky trial of a program like this one could start.  But what he described today?  Oh god.

He has to be blatantly, flat-out lying.  He said "this works, today".

I thought the video looked prerendered and non-interactive.  It seemed that the 'running your hands through the water' part was out of sync with her actual actions, which would prove to me that the demo'd version is nothing but worthless stage play.  3:35, the reflection reaches out its left hand WAY before the actress does.

I, for one, love Microsoft.

Also, he said selected guests would get to play the game.  We have to find one of these people and coerce them into talking.

I still hope it's fo'rizzle though, I'll tell the kid to shut up every time he opens his mouth, and flip him off with both hands unceasingly.

What does Microsoft have to do with anything here?...

Also, if they have the processing power for that thing to do image recognition, or for that matter good SPEECH recognition, they certainly have the processing power and expertise to make a decent voder.  If they are reading facial expressions, they can pick out phonemes and reconstruct them in an artificial voice.

We've got the embryonic tech to do that now, speak anything in any voice you want with whatever inflection you want.  That tech has come a long way, and it has a long way to go, but it's good enough that I would believe it's usable in a project like this...just not, you know, this GOOD.

God.  Anyone here read "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"?
