So I just had a Skilled Engraver / Normal Woodcrafter / Dabbling Stonecrafter go weird. Gets some materials, goes to a Craftsdwarf workshop. About a week later, she comes out with a dolomite amulet and a legendary rank in engraver. Would this be a bug relating to the assignment of the 20k XP to the highest skill rather than highest craft skill, or does this fall under some special case concerning stoneworking?

Engravers can get moods. The mood will generally create a stone craft, but it's normal.

Is it covered in many stone decorations?

I'm aware of engravers being capable of getting moods - hell, my first berserker from a failed mood was a milker. I just understood it as the mood would use the highest crafting skill and grant experience to that, not the highest skill overall (ie. the milker would've become a legendary *crafter, not a legendary milker)

And no, the unit of dolomite that provided the base was the only stone ingredient or decoration.

If the highest skill a dwarf has is moodable, then that's the skill that will be enhanced by artifact experience. Engraving is a "crafting skill" for these purposes, in other words. But so is mining, so "crafting skill" is a misnomer.
