Dwarves: A tribute in verses
« on: June 03, 2009, 03:06:37 pm »

This is my very first attempt at poetry. Nontheless, this is something I felt like doing. Please do not be TOO harsh. Also, remember that English is not my first language for I hail from the Lands of BMWs and Bratwurst. Regardless moving on, this is what I call Dwarves: A tribute in verses.

In a faraway land, digging the Earth,
Live strong, bearded men of considerable girth.
They are called the Dwarves, they like ale and rum.
If you care 'bout their stories, listen, my chum.

Their names are Urist and Sibrek and such.
They are quite headstrong and hate Elves SO much.
They love digging through stone and cutting down trees.
Dwarves love to work but they are bored of peace.

Note: I'll stop here for now, as I have to go. Expect me to continue in an hour or two. Or tomorrow at the latest. I am looking forward to your feedback.

This is a nice idea. It's kind of a coincidence, because my epic poem about Dwarf Fortress is still being written (53 verses now!). :)

I would normally troll this because I HATE poetry, but this is actually much better than any I've heard so far. (and it rhymes)

Obligatory link to the last poetry thread which includes dwarf poetry in the form and meter of The Raven starting halfway down.

I've translated one of the most ancient dwarven songs known:

    Gold, gold, gold, gold,
    gold, gold, gold, gold,
    gold, gold, gold, gold,
    gold, gold, gold, gold.

    Gold, gold, gold, gold,
    gold, gold, gold, gold,
    gold, gold, gold, gold,
    gold, gold, gold, gold.

I believe it goes on for another ten thousand verses, and then repeats.

I've translated one of the most ancient dwarven songs known:

    Booze, booze, booze, booze,
    booze, booze, booze, booze,
    booze, booze, booze, booze,
    booze, booze, booze, booze.

    Booze, booze, booze, booze,
    booze, booze, booze, booze,

I believe it goes on for another ten thousand verses, and then repeats.

Fixed :)
