He chose them because he thought they were best for the job, but when they fail him he loses interest. it's how nobles are. Think of them like popular people. You may not understand why they take certain actions, but at least you understand the outcomes of their actions.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I would personally like to see this handled more on the player than automatic level, but having the noble give a sub-mood to a dwarf with that skill would be fun as well. Good thoughts going out here.

The guild idea would be a better way to handle this though. The noble says: Make this. The guild given the mandate tells Urist mcdwarf: Make this. Urist makes it.
