1 armed games.
« on: June 01, 2009, 04:00:37 pm »

Tore a nerve in my shoulder. It sucks. Goin to be armless until it grows back. In addition to makin my desk job rougher, it's limited my destress time to sittin, eating, and drinking. Fine dwarven pasttimes, but still getting sick of them.

Any good games out there that require no hotkeys/ left hand?

Haven/hearth isnt so bad just yet, but the twitchier parts (combat, or building quicker) are a bit rough. DF is impossible.

Osu! is a PERFECT game for that.  Rhythm game with the mouse.

Various tower defense games, perhaps.  Immortal Defense is kind of fun.

Hope your arm gets better soon!

Waverace on the N64 is one of my favourite one handed games.

Other than that...hmm... tropico can be played with the mouse alone just fine.

Neverwinter Nights 1 kind of works.

Diablo 2 with certain character builds works, too.

And so on and so forth...

Hammerfall uses nothing but the mouse.

Ah yeah--Tropico is mostly good.  SimCity can be played without hotkeys, it's only a little bit of extra work.  (Well, eh, I dunno about that actually.)  Rollercoaster Tycoon.  Civ games are often do-able with one hand with only a little bit of frustration...

Puzzle Pirates, if you want an MMO you can play one handed!

It's fun.  It's really fun.  It's way more fun than you'd think it would be.  Give it a couple hours of your time and see.  I mean if you play WoW you're just going to be keeling six snow moose anyway, and that's boring.  Play a puzzle game instead, and watch the ship you're working on go faster, that's fun!  And then stab other pirates and take their stuff.  And haul treasure out from the sea.

If you're worried about not being very fast...well for one thing that's silly, all the puzzles are one handed anyway.  But the game rewards efficiency as much as speed, so even if you play slow, playing smart will still get you where you're going.

OpenTTD, if you have/can acquire the data files from the original transport tycoon deluxe. It's advantageous to be able to use the shift or ctrl button in some cases, but I don't think it's absolutely required. Just speeds up some things.

Within a deep forest uses only the arrow keys.

Have you considered switching to a foot mouse? They typically use one foot for X-Y position and the other for buttons. They can be a little pricey ($150 +) but you may be able to get your insurer or employer to cover it.

Within a Deep Forest requires the use of the A and S keys too.

Don't kid yourself it's Nifflas's worst game.

Saying it's his worst game isn't saying much.  I found it to be very atmospheric and reasonably fun.

The A and S keys are a problem though, I don't remember if it's possible to rebind them.  In any case, it's worth it if you can play it, IMO.

I think my favourite one armed games are actually some pretty old classics, some of them reach back even before ye goode olde C64 days:

One Eyed Snake Wrestling Reloaded
Advanced Pocket Snooker
Pipe Polishing 3D
Crazy Chicken Choker
Five Finger Shuffle

and last but not least the great

Pigman Punisher 2000
