What's a 'Wise'
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:51:25 pm »

I really got the following message.

Wise Fikod Itebanem has arrived.

If someone could tell me what he'll do / such, I'd love to know. Thanks.

Sounds like the Philosopher. Can't say for sure, but it seems likely enough.

If it is, he doesn't actually do anything.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

That would be your philosopher noble. He is absolutely pointless, and does nothing noteworthy except think (so nothing noteworthy). Thankfully, however, he is fine living without an assigned room and makes no demands or mandates. So he's basically a small drain on your food and booze and nothing else.

(Hammerers are not "wise".)

He can pull a lever as well as any dwarf.

Also any other of the few "noble" labors - lugging items to the Trade depot, moving animals around or removing constructions.  Some others. (Same as "child", which says something about nobles in general, ahem.)

What Albedo said.

The Philosopher is probably the least troublesome of the Nobles...  he doesn't do much (just your basic "child" work) but he doesn't ask for much either.  I don't think I've ever had a Philosopher pass a mandate.

I'd save the fancy levers for those that count: the Hammerer would be my prime candidate.

I imagine that this may change when Toady gets around to restoring Nobles to their former levels of annoyance... All praise to Armok that we don't have to put up with Guild Masters anymore!

Just wondering if it would be possible (however unwise) to make demons a civilisation
I don't see any reason they couldn't be. What would happen if they breached the HFS?

Unintentional innuendo aside, the philosopher is ideal for operating your Fortress Control Center. Just give him a bedroom and dining room, and build the levers there. Keep a food and drink stockpile in the dining room. He should never need to leave, and you don't have anything else you could do with him, other than [gruesome death of your choice].

Not quite true.  My current one spends a lot of time hanging around the farms and, from memory, he's become a competent grower.

I just can't tell him to do that.  I'm pretty sure that I've had others do similar in the past.

Probably due to the fact that you have "Dwarves All Harvest" enabled. It's the same function that makes children and nobles gather plants. Should you want to turn this off, go to the [o ]rders menu and say that [h]arvesting is only for farmers.
