So there's this cyclops.
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:54:37 pm »

I'll just show the image, followed by an explanation.

Yes, the Bearded Ruthlessness. Not shown: Mato Netmaligned, yet another former TBR leader, being killed by thi s cyclops. Yivu, by the way, is missing her entire right leg.

Oh, and TBR is NOT a dwarven civ. It's a goblin civ, the capitol of which is Dungeonthrowers, a dark fortress not too far away from the cave where I found Yivu. The current leader is a spearmaster goblin named Zolak Shortdoomed, who has been leader for the last 16 years. Also, according to Legends, previous leaders shown by Yivu were all pretty impressive. Stozu Jackalrag was an elite marksgoblin, Mato a hammerlord, and Nguslu Thiefbewitched was a demon. Clearly, this cyclops was awesome at some point. Still fell rather easily thanks to giving in to pain all the time, though.

Anyway, thought I'd share that, if only for the civ name. Any suggestions as to what to do with them?

huh....how exactly did a cyclops even meet a dang demon? Did he wander into an abandoned fortress? Maybe it was just a bizzare worldgen event.

The cyclops rolled like 5 6's in a row, and the demon rolled 1's, 2's, and 3's.

Probably worldgen. Also, not Ulysses - my axedwarf is "Zaneg Glazecontrol". Yes.

Oh, and by the way, I'm looking around the dark fortress now. They're friendly, and somehow surviving despite having to fight off the inhabitants of a chasm AND an underground river.

Also, more notable names. Another powerful group in here is the Perplexing Poisons, led by Ngokang Necroghouls the demon since year 1. In other words, since worldgen, which would be about 220 years at the moment. Along with that, there's a perfectly ordinary goblin guard named Estrur Talkjackals the God-forsaken Eater of Twilight. Not going to mess with that goblin :P

Well, I don't know if it's as good as burning elves, but Estrur has a dead human (Furi Eyehops, I plan to check who that was on Legends at some point) to his name.

Also, I talked to the leader, Zolak Shortdoomed (pikemaster). Turns out that Yivu the cyclops attacked almost a century ago, back in 107 (It's the 5th of Timber, 203 now) and killed 11, then ran off after losing a leg. So yes, something of a local legend, I assume. I think they might be friendly because I killed Yivu beforehand, unless Adventurer mode goblins are friendly by default. Can anyone confirm this?

Oh, and if the attack in 107 calls for screenshots, I have one.

Gobbos are always friendly in Adventurer mode, unless the civ you are a member/mercenery of is at war with them (I think)

Interesting.. I checked later in Legends, though, and anything named that attacked me was marked as an enemy of the Bearded Ruthlessness. Guess they decided to look out for me :P

Am I the only one who finds the "bad luck with women" comment rather odd?

Yes and no. It's weird, but I've had giants boast that someone or the other "shattered on the anvil of their contempt", so none of those comments faze me much at this point :P

Yeah Giant's and Cyclops CHIRP so hard. I've had references to people's inadequte manhoods, strange things about women being killed....these semimegabeasts are just hilariously evil.

Quite a few of mine are too. In my experience, it doesn't stop them from talking, odd as that may be. They'll also talk regardless of stealth. Doesn't mean they've spotted you, just means that nothing seems to stop their monologues.

Strange, my semi-megabeasts only shout their monologues at me when they actually see me, other wise they just stand there, doing whatever a giant humanoid does inside such small cave.
