Professions, events, etc etc.

Long term siege where instead of charging in the goblins slowly dig their way in, disable traps, shoot from a distance and sick nasty creatures on the dwarves (cave trolls, elves, etc.)

I'd like runecrafting as a profession: The art of improving various objects by imbuing them with runic magic. Fire axes, exploding wall traps, healing ale ... The uses are nearly endless!

Truly, the ability to place runes on liquids makes dwarves the greatest craftsmen. ;D

Alchemy, then.  Turning lead into gold and making materials for moving pictures and whatnot.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

I ment a rune of healing on the barrel, not the liquid. But yes, if they can mince the beer, they can draw a rune on it.

I'm trying to place what videogame you got this idea from. It's on the tip of my tongue, I just can't place it.

I didn't take the idea from any game specifically, although it's possible I did without noticing it.

Heres an idea.

A vast cave complex below the ... whatever, full of megabeasts.

And demons.

And the Third Reich.

I think it will be done in ASCIIDraw.
Yes.

Already thought of that(Allegiances can be made, maybe a goblin king promises some kobold poisoners some treasure if they poison your food. Then, a week later, after half your population is dead, they attack. Huge army, goblins, trolls, siege engines(Yes, siege engines). Well, when you deploy your marksdwarves on top of a tower, a group of goblins on giant eagles swoop down, grabbing your marksdwarves, and dropping them to the ground from 10 levels up)

I have been tossing around the idea of a runesmith.

Alchemy?  Seems like it'll at least be a good way to temporarily kill off characters of people who might not be able to be active for awhile.  Very weird, alchemy.

Although I will not play, I have a suggestion. Character megabeasts. Such as a dragon coming along and wiping out a good part of the fort, then camping there for good and having daily activities with the dwarves. Such as demanding certain things and harassing dwarves for fun without completely maiming them. Such a beast might be available for a player.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.
