DF - real life coincidence
« on: May 29, 2009, 06:53:14 pm »

It just started raining here like 1 minute ago, and at about exactly the same time when I heard raindrops falling on the glass, DF said "It has started raining." Lol.

Happened to me all the time back when I played Animal Crossing.

Same here; both for Dwarf Fortress AND Animal Crossing. Both games have no connection with the real world, either, so how does this happen?:o Nice coincidences, but creepy.

Because it's totally random, so bound to happen.  To somebody.

Pro tip: Build a fortess in scorching climate.  :P

I fired up The Sims 2 on the way home last weekend. I found it odd that it started raining shortly before it did in real life, considering I can play for days without seeing different types of weather.

The human brain is geared to recognize patterns. It has trouble when things which aren't connect seem to be.

Then there is always a random chance that these two events could happen at the same time.

So yay! You got screwed by statistics and your own brain!

First ten minutes of play I ate my loincloth and then got some limbs torn off by a super friendly rat. Thumbs up from me.

I thought AC was meant to show the actual weather in your area.  It does with time of day on the DS, I thought the Wii version was supposed to use the weather channel.

DF, on the other hand, that's just perceived coincidence.

We weren't talking about your newfangled Wii AC.
I played Animal Crossing.
The original AC (iirc) and AC:WW (definitely know this one) both use date and time only.

One time I was playing DF, and I had to stop and help my wife hang a picture up on the wall, and when I was pounding the nail in, damned if molten magma didn't shoot out of the hole and burn my face off.

I hate it when that happens.

Yeah, I can never embark on a desert without a glass of water on my desk. And I can't read Dune without one either!
