Teapots?  What are the materials for those, and how much better are they for skilling?

Also, I recall someone somewhere mentioning some drink that restores stamina.  What was that?

Some valid problems, trees aren't the only above ground resources either, rocks too.

Apparently trees will be replantable, or so it said on the forums.

As for mines I think they already do, I had been leaving ore I couldn't carry back with me hidden in an alcove in the dark just away from a fire, after logging off and back in again it had disappeared as if filled with new rock, I suppose it could have been mined bare though.

I have skills: Unarmed Combat 3, Melee Combat 3.

I have Will to Power and Unarmed Combat.

I have a stone axe equipped.

And I can't seem to land a blow.

Edit: Militia training gave me new options related to stone axe: (C)hop, but didn't seem to help.  Is combat a realtime event?

Militia training gave you FIRST options related to stone axe, before that you punched em. Chop = attack with axe.

I am not amazed that a fox ate you. Before attacking wild beasts wear some metal armor, get a nice sword and get 8-10 in melee. Also it's nice to shoot a few arrows before you start a melee fight.
In melee use blocking tactics and wear a shield. It helps. Dodging sucks IMO.

So who's attacking wild beasts?  Not me.  I didn't start those fights, I just want to finish them.

Combat happens automatically, yes?  Except for the one-time attacks, I don't have to keep hitting C for each blow, right?

Can anyone explain to me how claiming land works? I assume that's what those red boxes I couldn't walk into were...

I request caveins :D.

Also there should be some "government roads" established later where server staff and maybe trusted players should play the role of the government, which works like land claiming but for criminals only and disallows to be claimed to allow passage. The game needs heavy playtesting and i am sure it will be reset a few times.

Landscape needs more population, trees need to regrow etc.

While we're waiting for the server to come back up (or..uh...not?), why don't we discuss something here.

I have to say this is one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a long while, but I wonder about a few things. Won't these problems eventually arise:
  • overpopulation, causing severe lack of trees
  • mines eventually become so dug out that it is ridiculous to walk all the way to the sides
  • people get boxed in/blocked off from certain things because of land claims
  • new servers are required because of overpopulation lag

Some of these probably have easy solutions, but I'm just saying. Mines (if they don't already) should probably reset every once in a while to prevent #2 on the list.

As it stands, yeah, all of these are virtually certain to happen.  But it is an alpha under development, so probably these problems will be worked around.  in the meanttime, it is a BIG world, so if all the trees are chopped down, you can just move elsewhere.
All my DF forests get deforested anyway.  Even over the protests of the elves.  and their dead bodies.

You get the yeomanry skill, build a "totem"-like thing which shows that the land around it is yours. Then you spend skill points to make this area bigger. People with "trespassing" skill may enter but they lose hp each step (and not only "soft", but also "hard" hp! So it will take a lot of time to recover). So the land owner can kill a trespasser with a single arrow.

Hrm, if I claimed the land around my cabin, I may block the road.  That could be a problem.  ...or I could just make another cabin somewhere else.  Then again, said road isn't the only way to get into our new settlement (though it ought to be).

It's just if we haven't any visitors then I'd imagine we could trust each other enough not to claim land?

Can you set it to allow your friends on the property as well as yourself?

I'm not sure, but that's a good idea. You should also be able to turn the totem on and off.
