What would happen if we were to cover EVERY space with a wall. Wouldn't that mean that the zeds couldn't spawn anywhere?

You would have to be standing on a spot. ALL THE ZOMBIES WOULD SPAWN ON YOUR FACE.

We should walk on top of our walls and shoot down on the zombies below.

Walls have this innate disadvantage of creating a blind spot that can't be shot at. As a result, the best defenses only use them when absolutely necessary.
On the other hand, if the walls last long enough they will be great for giving us time to deal with the rest of the enemy, so long as we can leave fairly quickly to kill off the last few before they break down the wall. Having more fortifications doesn't really help once everybody is shooting and if the enemy numbers are low we won't need the fortress, so I vote mobility over fortifications, how tough a door can we get?

For myself I would probably build something like this...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It is more expensive and has worse firing arcs but it should last longer and be more resistant to ranged attacks...

No, but they might spit poisonous acid with radioactive parasites in it...

If we filled up the entire area with walls and no zombies could spawn then we couldn't get any money for killing zombies...

I am thinking it would be good to remove the right most walls and replace the lower of them with a fortification, if three zombies come in from the right-hand wall we should be able to handle them...
And an extra door could provide some insurance against the battlement walls falling...

If we made a winding path of fortification-window-things that forced the zombies to cross our field of fire like 8 times before reaching us, would they walk through it or just break it down for a more direct path?

Just a note, I was working within the constraints of the map while attempting to get everyone a shooting spot, otherwise I might have used more walls.

Intelligent zombies might consider it, but the shambling horde will probably just bust down anything remotely complicated, I expect that they can figure out that doors are squishier than walls, but running a maze would be a bit much...

Could we have a portcullis that we can shoot and walk through but probably requires an action to open or close?

Maybe the pricing structure for fortifications could be based on resistance multiplied by abilities. So you would start with a wall that can withstand 10 zombie attacks, and say it is worth $20 and being able to walk through it adds 25% for a $25 door and being able to shoot through it could add 50% for a $30 fortification, or 75% for a $35 clear military shield with a gun slit made into a makeshift door...

How difficult is it to remove existing structures and can any of the resources be salvaged?

Hmm, nobody can shoot anything until the zombies get in range, maybe we should just build a couple of 4x4 fortification bunkers that people can start trapped in...

Most zombies would bust down fortifications rather than walk mazes, bu fortunately, most zombies can bust down walls (high damage block, you see).

And yes, strife, there will be claymores

But Strife, beware. Luke has made no distinction between the explosive and sword type claymore. Not that I would mind either in this game.

Yeah, I would love to dual-wield claymores, I doubt that it would be possible but it would be pretty cool...
