The common misconception is that 'spear = needle'.

Spearhead actually resembles something of a leaf (in most cases). If the spearhead is flat and sharp enough, and you trust from the side with enough strength, slicing of small body parts might happen quite easily.

Well, I've got something: My Newly vampirised adventurer had been sent to clear a warlord out of the catacombs of the Pregnant Abbey. His companions, two spearmen and an axeman, followed him in.


It was, for lack of a better term, a massacre. The Warlord, who happened to be a master of the crossbow, sent his lackeys after us in an effort to delay our charge long enough for him to turn us into pincushions. The axeman got it in the leg, and fought valiantly against a trio of macemen, but was finally overhwlemed after they snapped every bone in his lower body, but he gave as good as he got, and gave them all massive bleeding wounds before perishing. The Spearmen fought bravely with a single lasher, but the strength of armok himself was with him, and he defeated both of my loyal meat sheilds before subcuming to a terminal case of thrown sock. The Warlord then promptly shot me in the chest, puncturing both lungs. Calmly, I withdrew the bolt and slung it back at him, striking him square in the heart.

He stared back, dumbfounded, as his deliscious lifeblood dripped from his veins, and he collapsed in a muddled heap on the floor.

Honestly, i don't know how i managed it, i was just training Wrestling and decided to see what I could cut off without killing it.
You shoulda seen all the teeth when i managed to do this with three boars without being detected.
But yeah, i find it a nice change of pace to carve up a boar while its still alive, its more action packed than normal combat.

I was looking over some old posts of mine on another forum I frequent, and I rediscovered something I'd written about my first adventure in 0.34.  Might be fun for someone to draw.

Adventure mode is pretty awesome now.  There's a definite but natural hierarchy of difficulty, with commensurate rewards: wilderness (no-quality) -> dungeons (-good- quality) -> catacombs (+fine+ quality) -> tombs (*superior* quality) -> bandit armies (=exceptional= or greater quality).  Or at least that's how it works in the worlds I've genned.

The tombs have been particularly fun.  There was this one tomb I went into, looking--as always--to discover its secrets (i.e. treasure).  I was very careful not to touch anything during my explorations; as some of my earlier adventurers had discovered, that's a great way to awaken the tomb's mummy before its time.  Mummies, just so you know, are incredibly strong fighters that also have some really powerful magic at their disposal. You don't ever want to give one the upper hand.

Luckily, this time I knew what I was doing.  After some wandering, I found the innermost room of the mummy's tomb.  It was a high-ceilinged room containing four fabulous statues, an imposing coffin of solid jet, and no less than forty moldering skeletons--loyal servants? Failed treasure hunters? I couldn't say.  Me, I made a beeline for the coffin and kicked it open.

The mummy opened its eyes and began to stand up, a curse forming on its withered lips.  I cut off its foot.

It fell over.  I leapt forward, my blade finding and shattering its spine--but alas, it wasn't enough. A single, powerful gesture from the mummy, and the myriad corpses shuddered and began to move.  My third blow severed the head and laid the ancient ruler to rest, but it was too late: the skeletons were already staggering to their feet, blocking off all but one of the exits.

My only hope was a narrow spiral staircase, winding up into the shadows.  I bounded up the steps, the skeletons in hot (cold?) pursuit.  About halfway up I stopped, an idea coming to me.  I switched my attack mode to Charge, and as each skeleton heaved its way up the stairs, I swung at it with all the force I could muster.  Most of my attacks destroyed their targets instantly; those that didn't flung the skeleton backwards off the stairs to impact the floor below.

This worked for a while, but soon I began to tire.  For every skeleton I (re-)slew, two took its place. (Literally. I counted.)  I was forced to retreat the rest of the way up the stairs, eventually finding myself in a largish room containing a few pieces of treasure and absolutely no way out. End of the line.

But then, as I went to gather up any treasure I could use for a last stand, I noticed something interesting. A weapon trap. A couple of weapon traps.  A tactical advantage.  Carefully, I edged around the perimeter of the room, trying to put the traps between me and the staircase without springing any myself.  I didn't know if the traps would do anything against the tomb's natural inhabitants, but it was worth a shot.

As it turned out, I was right.  Oh Armok, so very right. As the skeletal horde poured out of the stairwell, something wonderful began to happen.  They started tripping traps.  And not just the two that I'd seen. Flails and morningstars, bolts and axes, swords of all sizes--there were a good dozen traps between me and the stairs, and the skeletons found every single one of them.  I stood there and laughed as they staggered toward me, and I didn't raise my sword once as they slowly ground themselves into paste.
