I don't really care much for veins of ore or whatever that cross through the rooms I make. Unless it's a particularily valuable ore like iron, I'll try to relocate a bit. As far as the bedroom areas, I just leave it as is and if I'm desperate for some particular ore or whatever, I can always scavenge it from there and create new bedrooms.

Seriously though, some stuff like Microcline and Alunite are so common that they are unavoidable (although getting the 'you have hit alunite!' alot does get annoying along with the screen jump).

I don't have OCD anyway.......

I don't mind so much anymore about below ground rooms and stuff. But above ground, definitely. I will always build out of the same material, or a closer material. Like Obsidian and Diorite and Felsite and mainly the same colours, so I build with them. As long as I get a nice colour scheme that is fluid, i'm happy. I can't build walls that are dark, then go white, because of Chalk or Alunite or whatever.

Thank god in my current fort I have like 5 complete layers of Obsidian :D

I have a symmetrical staircase design and am starting to tend towards hollowing out layers and constructing the variouse rooms from blocks...
