Ast Ablelgan, Combatant, has become enraged [solved]
« on: May 26, 2009, 01:08:12 pm »

Ast Ablelgan, Combatant, is no longer enraged.
Ast Ablelgan, Combatant, has suffocated.

This dwarf had been working out at a pump in the gym, when she became enraged, apparently at the gobs still half a mile from our fort's entrance. After becoming enraged there was blood spattered on the wall next to her. I don't see whom or what might have done this to her. My hammerer was in his room and there have been no messages about tantrums or anything like that either.

Now, is it possible that an enraged dwarf will hurt themselves? I wouldn't even call it a bug, as it would more or less make sense, but becoming enraged at an enemy one has yet to see on the horizon is bordering on the ridiculous.

EDIT: Come to think of it, this isn't my first random and strange death. Before save-scumming I had a dwarf on stone detailing struck down. He wasn't touched by the hammerer either, wasn't even on his list (neither was that enraged and suffocated one). Both deaths happened shortly after that year's dwarven caravan arrived. I'm gonna save-scum once more, and will see if I get any more weird shit like that.

EDIT2: Now I had a guy who went "cancels eat: unconscious" and like a couple seconds after that he was "struck down". I found his corpse and he died on some stairs and there's blood everywhere. Does this mean that dwarfs can fall down stairs and break their necks - even if there's no collapse or cave-in or anything of the sort - or is this some sort of bug?

I'm having so many random deaths in this game that I'm thinking I might have fucked up my save files or something.

I think there's a ninja loose in your fortress. There is apparently something that's running around and killing your dwarves with impunity. You... didn't tame something that's killed a dwarf before, did you?

It's a shame that wagons explode at the sight of dreaded sea foam.

Crosspost from your other thread:

Both of those sound like punishment.  The hammerer isn't the only dwarf that metes out punishment -- the fortress guard can do it too.  Have any guards, captains of the guard, sheriffs, etc. running around?  Been failing mandates?

I didn't tame anything. I don't have any animals more exotic than a couple of cows.

So it must be the captain of the guard. She's a legendary miner, I think, from my founders, so I see how she might be able to fuck people up with one hit.

Also, about me posting this in 2 places: this thread had gotten quite a few views without one reply, so I didn't expect much of it. Also, I probably should have deleted this thread (if I even had that privilege, never tried) when starting that other one.

EDIT: I checked my justice tab and you were pretty much 100% right. The guy who "fell down the stairs" had violated a production order, and my captain was an ultra-mighty grand master miner. Looks like I'm gonna have to leave that office vacant now.
