We did this with Leafsnail once.  Although Phayt stayed the same, giving an interesting image of a guy sitting down and arguing with a bunch of snails.

The best part?  Leafsnail wasn't me.  I was Leafsnale.
That's just insane, I preferred when each of us was a letter and nobody was allowed to whois.  No meta!!!  We did pretty good and I survived many night 0's.  ;D

Keep posting logs!  Keep bringing people.

With chaos, it's boring because it's half-mountainous and half secret roles. Martian is awesome bacause there's nothing 0%, so we can use the epic roles we get instead of having all actions fail.

Gamebreaking Strat: If you whois everyone during the night, you can learn who's sent a message. If they send more than one, they're scum, a mason group, or a cult. Or testsetup'ing, or getting help on something, I guess, but more than likely they're scum.

In the game going on, I know one of the scum for sure, and I think I know both.

EDIT: The one I knew was Horrordude. Good for me.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Apparantly some clients allow you to see how long somone has been idle; if you look at people's idle times near the end of the night, those with low or no idle times are probably chatting to somone else, and thus are mafia\mason\cult.

This is considered cheating though, and is indeed pretty cheaty, don't do it.

One of the mods said it's ok, but I need to get more consensus. In the meantime, I'm not going to be abusing whois. I can't do it as scum, although scum can use it to figure out who hasn't sent in an action. If the night ends and they still haven't done anything all night, they're obviously vanilla.

Pretty cheaty?  sigh... If it's not specifically against the rules then it's not cheating.

That's totally valid.  If the game it's broken, it should be fixed.  If you tell people to ignore gamebreaking strategies you're dumbing the game down horribly.

What about all the other game breaking strategies?  They all look lame because there doesn't seem to be a fair competition.  But it's not the player's fault.  But the setup's fault.  Fix the setup.

btw, this phrase is enough for me to preemptively dislike martian:

So... basically you'll have a totally random, swingy and probably broken setup where one action might change the outcome of the game.  Probably pure luck will decide the winner in most cases.

Mafia won't be really funny if there's no reward for skill.  Unless players suck terribly, in that case, it will actually be a trait because it will give them a fair chance of winning without much effort (think yatzee).

Chaos comes with a warning.

Yes!  Yes it is!!!  I think you never read a ruleset in your life.  I'm not talking b12 ruleset because you guys don't pay attention to those things... But at least read one of my mafiascum based (bajo flores mafia) rulesets.

Also... the VERY BASIC principle of mafia involves n players... not n-1 players with one player taking 2 spots... 2 spots inmediatly breaks many rules (nighttalking, sharing pm, revealing night action to a partner) not talking about the impossibility of winning as both teams.

If you are going to pursue an argument think first.  Don't act as if you were playing martian.

And I've been as nice as I could with that answer.
