3p start, all townies with a mafioso.

I, as town, started pushing someone and found them passive.  Kept pushing and pushing and they just folded hard in a mass of scumtells. 

Eventually, the third person stepped in and said that the one I was arguing with looked clearly scummy compared to me.

He then voted for me.

Although I was helped by the fact that one newbish player forgot to inspect night 1, inspected the same person he had done before on night 2 and quicklynched a townie day 3.  Thanks .

Hmm... do you think the irc style is more favourable to the town or the scum?  The town get less discussion time, but the scum have less time to make up falseclaims, which can be hard in a randomly setup game.

False & False. 
1)  The town has all the discussion time they want.  There may even be more discussion than in a forum if you allow it. 
  The only problem that can arise with great numbers of players is SPAM.  IRC mafia needs to be organized and people need to keep things concise and to the point.
2) Scum has enough time to make fakeclaims unless the game has a day start and people rush to MC.  This only seems to happen at timespiral so with a little experience you will learn to plan accordingly.

Stupid town.  There's no way to lose as town if everyone keeps a tidy spreadsheet with the info.  I've never lost a dethy.

One thing I found out the hard way doing IRC for a while: you can't pause it :p

Between family, errands, phone calls, and my internet I've been finding myself constantly getting pulled away during a game, which tends to ruin said game.

It's nice hitting 9th place, but I'm not sure I can keep playing it.

Yes!  Won a game as scum yesterday when the odds were stacked against me (oddrole: 6 players, one gunsmith scum (me))!  Usually I only win as scum if someone messed up or the game is very swingy .

I don't usually run testsetups... my claims are just uninspired. Secret Role, Mystery Role, MUP, Ascetic, sometimes Cop, Vig, or Doc. Never stuff like Census Taker or White Ooze.

Testsetup should be in your BLOOD as a scum.

The SECOND you see you're scum, do a testsetup, then pick one of the town ones that you think you can pull.

Don't go for the easy ones whenever possible: aim for roles that require active answers to perform. 

i.e. In a balanced setup, I had chosen Gunsmith for my claim and noticed that I was performing the only mafiakills.  2 nights later, it was p3.  Both people claimed townie, I claimed Gunsmith and that one of the dead and one of the townies had no gun, then voted for the other townie.

The one left just sat there saying ..wow, that's a good claim, and was lynched soon after.


Simply doing a testsetup and grabbing the most 'difficult' role you spot there is enough.  For Choice setups, actually choose a role that sounds the most pro-town then find two other roles in the testsetup on the town side that seem "not as good as your choice".  Again, the most difficult the better. 

The best claims are real, though.  FAR too many people will test to see if you are the role you say you are and then take that as confirmation of pro-town.

Well, I was royally buggered in Xylspecial.  I was running testsetups to create a convincing falseclaim, when someone decided to !xmafia status.  Yeah...

The time to do the testsetup is in the first night.  Before then a player can check who's 'alive' to see who hadn't made their choices.  If you take too long, it'll be clear you're not just looking at your role help files.

Damnit, I wanted to see what the Berserk Robot, Vampire and Greater Doppelganger roles did.

...Actually choosing the Greater Doppelganger gave me a nice, unlikely falseclaim (vice cop) so it wasn't all that bad.
