A Fishy Contest
« on: May 25, 2009, 12:03:57 pm »

I propose a contest! ;D

I don't belive this has been done before so here goes, I'm holding a contest for the most badass aquarium in fortress mode.
Rules:
1. Your aquarium must have at least 3 species of fish.
2. Your aquarium must be able to be seen from the outside and not encased in rock.
3. Your aquarium doens not have to be below or above ground.
4. Your aquarium does not have to have fresh or salt water.
5. Your aquarium should be at least 5x5

Aqariums will be judged by me and you should post them on the map archive, I'm not much for downloading fortrsses.
Scoring:

Following the rules above +5
More species than required +1 for each
                 Each shark species +2
                 Whales, monsters +3
                 Amphibious +2
Every fish +.5
Multi-room aquarium +2 for every room
Species seperated +1
A cleaning system(totally optional) +4
Sacrifice platform for prisoners, criminals and the like +3
Any sort of decoration or presentation +1 for each different concept
Any form of undead +2 for each species

Sign up in this thread and get building. Deadline is by June 25th. And remember, have fun!  ;D

What if all the fish in our aquaria are SKELETAL fish?

Count me in! Can we also set traps for (and release) vermin fish into the water? eg, anchovies, lungfish, herring, rays, jellyfish, etc. (I'm thinking we'd be releasing them where they would be "food" to the other fish).

Edit: How much are whales worth? Or sea serpents?

How much for amphibious creatures, like alligators, crocodiles, cave crocs, and the dreaded hippo?

I'm in. My current (non-breachedkeys) map is half terrifying ocean, and at a glance i have skeletal swordfish, a whole SCHOOL of skeletal cod, and some skeletal Opah-and that's not counting the fact that I haven't seen half the stuff on the map in all probability. Hopefully, I will see some skeletal sharks too (technically an impossibility, but hey). If I'm *really* lucky, I'll run into a skeletal sea serpent group. Only problem is figuring out how to catch any non-skeletal stuff.

I changed scoring so each fish of each species after the first gets you .5 points.

I'm in but I won't get started with it until Thursday.
Should we post our progress as we work or should we just post it when we finish?

Obviously, the dwarven thing to do would be to embark on the coast of terrifying ocean, and build a wall of green glass windows all the way around it...

I like to see progress but it's not required at all.
