The f(l)ight of the Mary Sues
« on: May 25, 2009, 01:22:07 am »

Setting: a temperate forest, somewhere in some fantasy setting. the flora is somewhat Asian-ish, and it is unrealistically beautiful and moody whit small pavilions littered all over the place despite there being nobody for miles and miles and no reason for anyone to have built them. The timescale of the game is that of fighting, and most likely the game will take place within a single day

Gameplay: you, the player, find yourself in this forest through something along the lines of teleportation gone wrong, just waking up there after passing out, or something along those lines. you will encounter the other players after a while, and hopefully something will hapen that makes you fight/join forces/try to stop the fight/whatever interesting.
The RP is completly freeform, whit a few rules:

1) the characters should be somewhat in the same league and style, and have interesting personality traits. they should not have a (working) vehicle, you only get one character, your character should be no larger than an elephants, and preferably roughly human-sized. the character SHOULD be somewhat overpowered, but should not be more powerful than a superhero.
2) you may not contradict something previously stated by someone else, unless specifically declared non-canonical by me.
3) each character is 100% the domain of it's player only. you may not make statements limiting or defining or changing someone else's character no matter how lame you think it is, if you think it's actually bad enough to ruin a game whit this premise, or breaking these rules, PM me.
4) direct interactions between players require the players to via PMs reach complete consensus about what should happen. having done this should be mentioned in the post. Ranged combat counts as indirect, and is resolved by the attacking player describes the exact nature of the attack itself, and the defending player about how it is blocked/deflected. no attacks may be completely unblockable.
5) you can make some statements about the local environment, but nothing extraordinary, if you have something you'd want in but is unsure if it's to unlikely, just PM me and ask if it's OK.
6) anyone can join, and no approval by me is needed, you dont need to write a character sheath, but please include a description of the character in the backstory.
7) you "win" by returning home. due to the nature
8) I may change this set of rules at any time.

A man in a grey duster stands up from some bush, brushes himself off, and looks around. To no one in particular, Strife says ,"Another day, another world. What do I have for weaponry?"

Strife pulls out a knife from one pocket and his heavy handgun from the other. He holsters the M15 and sheathes the blade. With a flourish and a spin, he retrieves a rifle from under his coat. "Good to go then. Let's check out this area."

With his rifle at the ready, Strife creeps through the jungle.

Mistress Candy Moonshadow Dragonshade Orcbane Moonfairy awoke to see a beautiful canopy of lush, verdant pine oak trees stretching above her head. They were as twinking and beautiful as her gemlike light green eyes that were currently light green but changed color every few minutes, much to Candy's embarrassment.

The last thing the beautiful half dragon night elf half centaur blood elf sorceress cleric remembered was falling asleep on the finest velvet couch of the elf king Moonbaneshadow, who had attempted to woo her with fabulous gems. She had to turn him down, however, because she was too powerful and mysterious a sorceress to be queen of a kingdom. It would be dangerous for weaker magicians like the elves to be close to her. She was just too beautiful.

She snapped out of her reverie to fine a small dragon with the wings of a dragon fly perched nearby her, making alarmed clicking noises. It was gesturing off to the north with it's tail. Candy knew it was the north, because she happened to have a perfect sense of direction. Everyone had their talent, and even if hers wasn't so impressive, she was still satisfied and graceful with it.

"Oh, do you need me to follow you? Are you in trouble?" Mistress Candy Moonorc asked the little dragon. It quickly flew off and she nimbly followed behind it.

They came to another small dragon caught in between two branches of a tree, with other little dragons around it looking worried. Mistress Candy Moonshadow reached up and freed it, and the dragons chirped delightedly. One of them offered her a large diamond, but she said,

"No, that's okay. Helping others is the only reward I need," and didn't take it.

Suddenly, a tall figure stepped out of the forest. He had dark black hair and light blue eyes and his white skin sparkled in the sunlight. Mistress Candy Orcshadow instantly recognized him as a fabled vampire.

"I saw you rescue that poor little dragon," said the muscular vampire. "I was so taken with your beauty and kindness that I had to come out and talk to you."

"Oh, I just couldn't let such harmless little creatures suffer without help," replied Candy.

"Oh also my name is Roberto Drake." Said the vampire.

Mistress Candy Moondragon Orcfairy Baneshadow and Drake the muscular vampire continued off into the forest.

Sweetsugar, the Coffee Pixie, wakes up. Size? 20 cm. Check. Wings? Check. Traditional green pixie clothing (with brown stains)? Check.

"Daylight! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" He dashes off into the sunlight at the speed of a, well, caffeine fairy on sugar. Only to fly into a pavillon. "But that's okay, because I am nigh-indestructable! Woo!" To annoy as long as possible, probably.

Mrs Smith was heading for home, she finshed shopping and was heading home. It was a long way home from the mall. Her home was quite far away and it was rather far.
-"Holy cow, isn't my home far away!" Exclaimed Mrs Smith. "It is so far away, that I got rather tired and could use some rest. I think I'll get some rest somewhere. Perhaps resting is in order? What a great idea, I'll go and get some rest at this beautiful park I'm just passing. On my way home. Which is far away. It really is"
Mrs Smith took a detour and entered the old park. She looked around the park, which was quite old, and decided that it's really an old park.
-"I kinda like this old park here" she thought to herself. "Perhaps I'll find some nice place to sit down and rest a bit. Sitting down is a good idea if one needs some rest. I should certainly sit down. Resting is more efficient if one sits somewhere first, or so I've heard."
She looked around and noticed a promising-looking Gazebo, not too far away.
-"Hey, isn't that a nice gazebo there! It's nice and it's really not too far away from here. I should indeed sit there, in this nice gazebo, which is really close. Sitting in that nice gazebo could be good for my resting." Said Mrs Smith as she was positioning herself on the charming piece of furiture, that she forgot how it's called in english.
-"My, my, this is truly a comfortable and charming piece of furniture I'm sitting on. Too bad I completely forgot how it's called in english. Still it's comfy and very charming piece of..."
These were the last words of Mrs Smith, as Il Palazzo, the Carnivorous Gazebo lowered his curtain-like external stomachs and began to digest the old lady and her shopping.
-"Somehow I feel that the world is a better place now", thought Il Palazzo.
As he was finishing his meal, he suddenly heard a fart-like sound and felt a tingling sensation on his roof.
-"So soon? The time-space is warping again, seems that I won't be staying here for too long, eh? But no matter, wherever I end up, there'll be always a place for a Gazebo like me."
{burp}
{ziiiit}
{pof!}
Out of the thin air, Il Palazzo, the Carnivorous Gazebo, materialised on a beautiful clearing. Calm wind was blowing, nearby trees bending gently as if dancing to it's music. The only sounds were that of distant birds singing and an occasional call of some small critter. In a distance, a solitary pavillon was standing. To every mundane observer, the construction would seem like a regular gazebo, somewhat similar to Palazzo himself, but Il P. knew better than that. Chills ran down his supports.
-"Something is amiss. One of my kind arrived here before me. Arrived and died a horrible death, only an empty, soulless husk left standing. I must be careful." Whispered Palazzo and began to cautiously explore the place.

This is going very well!  :D We've got Strife (you finally admitted he's a Sue! Moahaha!), a superclassical parody Sue, a LITERAL caffeine fairy on a sugar rush, and a carnivorous Gazebo. Is this awesome, totally awesome, or completely awesome?  ;D

one issue however: Inaluct; you can only have one character each, and no NPCs, the pet is OK I guess, because it's awesome, but please kill of the vampire before encountering any player.

I've never denied that Strife is a sue. You can claim that 99% of classic fantasy characters and any archetype with added traits is a sue.

Hmmph.

I sure hope there is some sort of civilization here. Or just some mildly civilized people. I'm getting hungry.

Sweetsugar flies up and grabs a leaf. He fashions an extra-stylish hat out of it, when something catches his attention.

It was just a small rabbit... "Heyrabbitwhatsupisthereanycoffeearoundhereireallyneedadrink"

The rabbit looks very irritated. "What's coffee?"

"Good stuff! Hey, look, a bee!"

A bright green flash lights up the sky, followed by a sonic boom and a distant explosion. Those who cared to look up may have noted a shining streak rip through the thin clouds, flying to the north.

(I'm not sure I want to join yet. I'll appear sometime later if things look to be fun enough.)

Euprydi was in a good mood. This may seem some what contradictory to his(?) current status; lost in a plant-place, with no one to kill. However, in comparison to his(?) previous status, this was a vast improvement. He(This is the last ?) had been quite close indeed to a complete breakdown, what with the evil archmage type fellow having been this close to finishing him off. Of course, that would have been out of spite, as his entire army was either fleeing or dead, thanks to Euprydi and his latest addition- shoulder mounted tesla coils. Ah, the flesh-hulls had fallen in great numbers then, learning an important lesson. If you are not a proper human, you should not cover yourself in metal!
Not that knowing this would have helped them. Euprydi was, of course, far stronger than them. It remained a mystery how they survived at all with their limbs of brittle calcium covered in flesh.
He flexed his own arm. A beautiful set of steel rods, with linkages and pistons to power it. That was what worked, that was what was proper. Flesh-hulls always asked him (provided he wasn't killing them) if he wouldn't rather have a 'normal' body. Euprydi would then point out that they were the ones who could not be replicated, who required a diet of a million different things in order to work. Their bodies were all unique, with odd quirks and faults. His, on the other hand, was a perfect replica of his great-parent's, who had also been a warrior. He had no quirks and required only fuel to work, and the occasional replacement part.
Anyway.
Euprydi set off into through the forest. Somewhere, there would be people. Where there were people, there were proper places of stone and metal. And where there were places of stone and metal, he could go home.

A mildly terrified dragonfly-dragon watched the hulking metal humanoid lurch of into the woods, thick smoke billowing from a chimney on it's head.

For those who prefer clarity to suggestion: Steampunk mecha fellow. Not magical. Humanoid, not much taller than humans, but stronger. Tesla coil and natural strength as weaponry. Noisy, billows smoke, scary.

A brown-haired, kinda messy short haired avarage-joe of a typical male human slowly wakes up from his slumber.
He stands up from his bed, rubbing his tired eyes as he feels grass under his feet.
Clad in nothing but his yellow-striped pyjamas, he takes a look at his surroundings, the bed is on top of a grassy knoll, he lets out the following words of disbelief.

"Oh not again.."

Time pauses for a moment as a textbox appears at the bottom of the screen.

Quote
Name: Fred Fredson   Age: 27   Abilities: To travel from one place to another, trans-dimensional travel included.    Occupation: Victim of spontanious teleportation.

Time resumes, as he talks to himselfashe usualy does when more or less panicked.

"It's alright, I can goback, all I need to do is go to sleep again.."

He sits down on his bed, realising that is too much awake to fall asleep at the moment.
A silent word of obscenety escapes from his mouth.

"Pop? This shouldn't go pop..... What the hell am I doing here?"
In the centre of a small clearing stands a very surprised person. He looks like a cross between a human and a stained glass window, since at some places his flesh blends in naturaly with deeply blue glass. There are 3 orbs of coloured glass floating around him.
One of the orbs floats towards him. at the same time, the two other orbs change into glass birds who fly away, surveying the area. Aparently he's using the orb to see throuhg their eyes...

Sudenly one of the glass brids notices you. It flies towards you and speaks with a soft voice:
"I speak in the name of Verin, High master glass shaper. Who are you? are you willing to help us?"
You're too surprised to say anything. Realising this, the bird flies away, seeking other things to investigate...

A child was seen falling out of the sky at roughly 12 that evening. Wind whistling about her impressively, she continued to fall, and the trajectory made it likely that she would end up impaling herself upon one of the trees...

Of course, that was unlikely to happen now was it?

Dramatically, just before she turned into a cold corpse, she gestured lightly with a hand. Suddenly, she froze in midair, which was physically impossible, but regardless it happened. Taking the time to dust herself off and straigten her skirt, she gestured again and alighted atop the tree she was hovering above.

"Where the hell am I...? I just tripped over a stone at school... and now I'm here?" She tried to walk off the tree, but being a clumsy airhead, tripped again and had to pull her trick, again, to save herself from becoming a splatter on the ground.

After straigtening up, she drew herself to her feet and looked about her... nothing in sight but forest. Without any direction, she ambled off, hoping to get home before dinner.
