Try out IVAN. I think it's awesome.

http://ivan.sourceforge.net/
IVAN would be too intensive for his comp I think, it cant even run c-evo.

But I guess it couldent hurt to try, if IVAN works it would be a good choice.

wut

Being able to play C-evo was what made him realize that his comp could play some things.
Oh, opps I misread:

Then I download C-evo, and I find that this laptop can indeed run some programs without crashing the damn thing.

I wish there was a version of IVAN that didn't have level scaling...

Hmm? What do you mean? IVANs easy to mod though, you could probably fix that yourself...

Insomnia has caused me, contradictory to my better judgement, to check this thread now.

I might make a competition of how long that laptop can handle some programs. Pictures and system specs would be needed though. Whatever, that is for another thread.

I am well aware of Spelunky, a game that at least tries to add a new element to the ever familiar roguelike formula. Haven't tried it on the laptop though.

IVAN actually does look promising. The tiles are a little small, but I have been using a small DF tileset for a while now. This should not be much of a problem.

IVAN for fun deaths
ADOM for interesting storyline (that is until you get bored of repeating it and figure out all the secrets)
Dungeon Crawl for actual RPG tactics in a roguelike and replayability. And not having to read spoilers.
Omega and Nethack for the world interacting in interesting ways to what you do (a bit outdated compared to Crawl, though)
Oh, and there's Gearhead if you like mechs.

Nah, that comp should be able to run IVAN without problems imo.

Personaly if I had to choose IVAN, it would be for its wizard mode. I mean its probably the only wizard mode I even like.

Honestly, with a huge stack of scrolls of teleport, and the summon enemy feature...

You cant go wrong with New Attnam zombie survival. :D

I'll toss another recomendation point at DoomRL. I play it more than DF's Adv. mode.

I tried NetHack... couldn't get into it.

Those are the only rogulikes i've tried. I have played Spelunky, I suck at it. I think i made it the level 5 once... But it's fun. Not sure if it'd work on your old PC tho.

Been on a Stone Soup binge here, and let me say it works wonderfully. Too wonderfully. Now instead of doing my year of Speargroove I'm playing this. Drat. I'll likely get back to that after I graduate tomorrow and then tackle DoomRL.

Stone Soup and DoomRL would be my main recommendations as well, but I'd like to add in the Berserk RL (from the same guy as DoomRL?).

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.
