Oh, by the way, most games will run just fine under WINE ( maybe with a glitch or two that is almost always solvable ), but the strange thing is that some games will run *faster* on WINE than on windows ( I personally tested a bit. Ultima Online, Warcraft 3, Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon Keeper 2, Darkplaces. They all gain a few FPS under linux )

I think that's mainly because Linux kernel manages memory better and surely my Linux has a smaller memory footprint than Windows. ( The *same* operating system I'm using right now was installed on a Pentium 133 with 32 MB ram and ran just fine. Go install Windows XP on that )

Even better will be ReactOS. If it goes as planned, it will be a clone of Windows capable of running windows progams natively. Same with the unified Linux kernel.

ReactOS is an interesting project. It's strictly related to WINE. IIRC many WINE developers are ReactOS developers, too.

It's not matter of "cloning" Windows, but of creating a compatible Windows OS from scratch. Avoiding most Windows horrors, possibly

A lot of programs already run fine on ReactOS, too.

They want it to look and feel like Windows. Same interface, same menus, etc.
