Microsoft Sucks
« on: May 22, 2009, 09:55:11 am »

Had to include a third option, or it just wouldn't be a proper forum poll.

Anyway, I'm definitely voting yes (obviously, due to the thread title). IE is nowhere near as good as Firefox, their OSs always seem annoyingly buggy, I don't see why people would pay for MS Office when OpenOffice.org is just as good if not better, as well as being free and the little advert at the bottom-left of messenger keeps popping up EVEN WHEN MESSENGER ISN'T FRIGGIN' ACTIVE (plus it has random bugs, of course).

/rant

Edit: also, winamp > media player. Just thought I should add that.

The problem is that most games don't work on Linux and most of us aren't guru enough to use Linux.

Which is why I'm still stuck with windows.

But if I got an alternative OS, which supports many games and programs I like and/or use, then I would use that instead. Provided it's rather easy to use/figure out ofcourse.

But yeah, It do suck dust.
Wouldn't surprize me if Microsoft decide to produce vacuum cleaners too.  ;D

Could always do a double install of Windows and something better, like Ubuntu; or run something other than Windows AND have a Windows emulator on board for games and such.

I run Ubuntu on my laptop and windows on my desktop, much prefer Ubuntu but I can't be bothered with the hassle it would cause for gaming on my desktop.

Well, you have to give them props on the company name though. Someone was secure in their manhood to name a company after two words you wouldn't want to hear your wang described as.

-_- While an interesting point, it's not something i would have thought of, much less brought up.

I went with "Whatever". I haven't had any serious problems with windows, but i'm also an "Open Source software FTW!!" person...

I could use Linux (and have off and on for years). If i knew for certain that all my programs and hardware would work, i'd probably switch. But my main computer is a laptop and i've heard too much about linux and laptops to try it.

My computers have been running windows OSes for a long time now. I have had very little trouble with my computers in regards to the operating systems (well, other than Windows ME  :-X).  I have no desire to go Mac (trendy and overpriced) and have no reason to switch to Linux. So my vote would land squarely in "meh" territory.

Windows XP was a huge, huge step up from Windows 9x for the home market.

Unfortunately, they then decided to make Windows Vista and all that went out the window.

One of my annoyances is that, in order to log off, I can't just go start->log off.

I have to go start->log off->trawl through about 50 error messages saying that "this dll cannot be initialised because the windows station is shutting down" and simple "end program" boxes->wait for the taskbar to disappear->press ctrl+alt+del->click log off from the shut down menu->trawl through 50 more error messages. THEN it will log off.

If that's happening in Windows XP, you're doing something very, very wrong.

But... where would we be right now without Windows???

Don't just insult microsoft like that... Or stop using it...

Yeah... I picked whatever Brah...

No, I don't like Vista.  I use XP.

Are you freaking kidding me?!  You're either going into hyperbola, or you're on crack.  Have you USED OpenOffice.  Ever.

OO1 was absolute total trash, buggy, most worthless auto-correcter ever, thought words were misspelled if you put an em dash after them, did actually suck when it came to save formats, and opened obscenely slowly.

OO2 is honestly not much better, and is still slow as a snail, and still has horrific save compatibility issues...with other versions of itself.

For a long time I only had OO on my machine.  Now I won't use it, period--it's absolute trash.  I prefer Wordpad.

Saying OO is as good as Microsoft Office is like saying The Gimp is as good as Photoshop.

Seriously? I have never found a problem with OO.o, and I use it regularly :-\

But then I use OO3, so maybe that's different...
