When you daren't press half the levers around because you know they might flood your fortress.

And you aren't even sure which half.

That kinda thing gets especially bad in succession games, I hear.

I have only 2 levers:

Lever one: bring down the drawbridge.
Lever two: flood fortress entrance.

Luckily, I can remember which one's which.  For now.

(If I ever found myself in a succession game where my predecessors had not labeled everything clearly, I'd just smile, deconstruct every lever I can find, and rebuild what I want.  And label it.

The unused mechanisms in the various doors and floodgates still add to total wealth.)

I can understand a succession game and not know which levers do what. However I place my levers in places that make it fairly obvious which does what. So I'm just having a hard time imagining what you people are doing in order to mess that up. Maybe you're all more forgetful than I? ... and that's saying something.

When the second spring the hippos hit their poplimit through births. Then they ALL grow up a few years later.

Edit: Related to this, i have three full graveyard stockpiles-with 30-40 coffins filled with dwarves AS-IS. Much of it due to either my first tantrum spiral, or lemming rushes when a dwarf died to a hippo or alligator.

When the ground outside your fortress is just muddy obsidian.
When you have lots of free bedrooms but you have to use old stripmines for coffins.
When the Hammerer took joy in slaughter.
