Interesting.  It's very much like DF in that respect.  Well, what DF is planned to be, instead of crazy effects from dining rooms and mist.

Wait and see.

I think that something will mess up and the game will "accidentally" run either HAL.BAT, GLADOS.BAT, or SKYNET.BAT on some unknown date about a month after it's release. EA will have put those files there and code to automatically regenerate them should they be deleted.
Otherwise, it will automatically purchase and install every single EA product multiple times in the first hour, and then whenever EA is "low" on cash or just feeling evil that day.

EA has disappointed me countless times. Not always.. but their games just seem to lose their luster after the first week of play.
Now The Sims original, that was a different story. Pretty damn original, great fun, lots of new content; then the expansions came. Alright, alright, expansions are fine. But come on! I think they went a little too far with squeezing out 'new content'.

Voila, The Sims 2 comes along and seems great.. for two days. Oh my, it's just the original Sims with a few changes. That's disheartening. I even bought it like a good little citizen.

I don't think I'll take my chances this time, emptying my wallet on the SAME GAME a third time just seems silly. Perhaps I'll try it first, but I won't be shocked if I uninstall within a week.

I saw a demo of the Sims 3.

Here's my short review.

meh. Good for kids and people into that thing. If you can run sims 2, you can pretty much run sims 3. It's very empty right now compared to sims 2+ mods/expansions so I wouldn't bother getting it right when it's released unless you're a fanatic.

EDIT: Also, LOL at favourite music choices having "indie" but no "rock". EA built the sims for scene kids.

Sounds just great to me. It's got a different theme and my sisters play it (and will pay for it), so that's pretty much all I need.

Lol, debvon, I really don't see how The Sims 2 is like the first? It's soooo much different, better in every way. Hell, it's actually a game, unlike the first.

It's as much of a game as the first.

The first didn't have objectives. The second had plenty of them. I heard the third's going to be more DF-ish in that doing things that Sims wants to do makes them happier. I do wish a DF-er would mod Sims 3 to have murderous tantrums later on.

In a nautical adventure 'pon the high seas? Sounds a bit naughty.

The line between The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 is quite blurred to me because of all the expansion packs that were released; It just seemed like 2, with the more objectives and all, could have easily been another expansion pack instead of a sequel.

Now I'll definitely buy a Sims game when you get Dream mode and Drug trip mode. THAT would be a whole new game! Or Forgetting to pick up the kids/go to work because you're drunk mode.

Here is something you may find interesting:

EA has gone on the record to say that the Pirated version is a Buggy Pre-release version

Goodness, EA better hope the real version is perfect (assuming they were telling the truth) or else people are going to get mad!
