It certainly didn't take long for EA's The Sims 3, one of the game publisher's flagship titles for 2009, to be shanghaied by interweb pirates. We've identified a number of trackers (that shall remain nameless) purportedly linking to the game torrent, sized somewhere near 5GB.

Although perhaps inevitable these days, the leak is still bad news for EA, which announced back in March that Sims 3 wouldn't carry any online authentication. Only a product key is necessary to activate the game, the company stated.

Awesome. Surprise?

Why must you taunt me so, internet? The week after I leave my awesome university connection for my dinky 56k line, this happens. Yeah, sure, I bet I could get it, but by the time I'm done the game would be released.

It's made by EA.

Why would you buy it before getting ahold of the  "demo"?

Well, it's not that bad. I've spent about 3 hours in it. Mostly, this is Sims 2, but seamless. Well, there're different changes (like reworked personality system or advanced lot system or opportunities system etc.), but the main thing is that you can directly walk with your sim around the town and it will load the locations seamlessly. Pretty neat feel I must say. This game REALLY lacks content. So until the community makes mod tools and starts to create things I think I'll wait, also I've found a few minor bugs already.

I think I'll wait for some official patch and community content and then download/buy it, because for now I have to be busy anyway. I must say, the main thing for me : they are not more hardware-heavy than Sims2, so if you can play Sims2, you can play Sims3 easily.

P.S. It's not demo, everything is playable.

as I mentioned on the Sims 3 thread in DF General Discussion, EA are LYING about their DRM. It requires you to phone home with your serial code to EA, via Securom, every time you launch the game. Not impressed.

Surprise? Where? I've been playing it for a few days now.

B12ers are slow. I might consider buying it when there are a couple expansions out in a pack.
