Well, he only needed one bar of metal? Maybe a short sword or spear-pretty sure a hammer at least requires more than one bar of the main metal. Alternately, it could be an artifact pick.

From Mr. Welch's 1350 things he is not allowed to do in a RPG:
148. There is no Gnomish Deathgrip, and even if there was, it wouldn't involve tongs.
171. My character's dying words are not allowed to be "Hastur, Hastur, Hastur"
218. No matter my alignment, organizing halfling pit fights is a violation.
231. I am not allowed to do anything that would make a Sith Lord cry.
240. Any character with more than three skills specializing in chainsaw is vetoed.

All weapons are 1 bar. Picks, crossbows, stacks of 25 bolts, and trap-weapons included.

Which, as I said earlier, make 3 of the trap components the best way to train weaponsmith.

Post the description, see if it adds up right. Sounds in the right ballpark for a platinum axe with a few decorations.

I got an iron cage menacing with spikes called The Metal Maiden once.
I kept goblins in it.

My cage of sapphire is worth 266,000.  Needless to say it is in the communal bedroom/ dining room/ throne room/ tomb that all my nobles share.  And I fill it with anything captured (Currently: 1 injured goblin thief.  The only creature ever to get to my traps).

A blowgun?

I usually just forbid ALL raw materials, and go and open up things like platinum and the highest quality dyed threads and my most expensive imported gems first.  Then slowly work my way back from there.  Sure it stops all my production, butI consider a mood enough a reason to call a holiday... or more often than not a hauliday and rearange my food and finished goods or something.

How heavy did it end up being? I had an aluminum spear earlier and I'm pretty happy with how light it is.
