i use notes for gravestones on coffins. how they died. which ones were with the goblins.

You can mark levers! You could leave "to do" lists around, or remind yourself of all kinds of things.

You can leave insults to players in succession games!
the only use for them!!

I use notes for labling the statues i place at the location of death for those who gave their lives defending the fortress.  Like the one who was treasurer for one minute before being eaten by cave swallows (and right after the engraver put a picture of her being raised to  treasurer in her hubby's quarters) and the planter, who wrestled down two squads of wrestlers only to be taken down by the third (had to divert my entrance to place that one).
