Ok, folks. We have 11 bays... but some of them don't really work together. It doesn't really matter. However, I would like to clarify my vision of the new world, and the unnamed bays:
Sir Forktongue the Navigator discovered the new world in 1054. Having done so, he sped back home to spread the good news. As soon as word of the new world reached them, the governments of the old world sent out their fastest ships with their most skilled map-makers to map it. Soon caravels ran along the shores of this virgin land, naming everything they saw. But the new world was large, and after a while they started to run out of things to name things. So they numbered them, hoping to rename them later. There were of course plenty of named things, but every now and then a seemingly boring mountain, river, or indeed bay, is called mountain4, river7, bay12.
After the mapping, colonists flocked to the new world. Every natural harbour they could find was hypothetical settling site. And so some settled in the unnamed bays. Apparently the gods hate unnamed things, as all those who settled in an unnamed bay seem to find their doom, sooner or later. Of course, settlements in named bays also fall to the ravages of fate, but not with such vigour.
Not that the happy crew of Tekud Toadworship's settling fleet know anything of this. In the days they set of, only one or two unnamed bays had met their fate, and many others were indeed booming. So they sail happily onwards, unaware of their seemingly certain doom.

Also, yes, this is a mixed-race thing, peoples. Dwarves are just another race.

Can we add characters, for example a drunkard clown, now?

Perhaps the historian that records each of the Bay's fates should somehow be present in Bay12, as a tie-together for the histories of all of them. Pehrpas he could be recording the fate of this Bay as well?

Have we identified weither the Elves are enemies or allies yet? Some of the Bay stories have contradicting views on that.

Archangel) We haven't started, so no, do not add characters. Also, you shouldn't in general, as the game is more about the town on the whole, rather than its component people.
Katsuun) That makes no sense- the unnamed bays were not founded in numerical order. Some may not even exist yet. Historians yes, one guy no.
Elves are in with us. Racial hatred between elves and dwarves is present, out right war- no. Perhaps in the old world, but not here, in the land of opportunity!
Of course, hostile natives come in all races. So we may end up slaughtering elves, just not 'civilised' ones.

Year 1, Month 1

A man named Tarn Adams (or toady for short) was in sadness, his family was executed for crime. He was going to get executed himself if he didn't run away so he and 5 families sailed away to have a fresh start in the new world. The trip took 1 week of sickness and disease although none died.

When they got there they found a bit of fertile land not far from the shore. There they started building small houses for each of the families. Most of the families took up farming, one took up the job of building houses. They had a nice little spot to sit in with lots of fertile land. There is forests not too far away and a mountain about a mile away.

I'd still prefer to have Toady as some kinda ineffable diety rather than the human, you know?

So is there a specific order to go in, or do we just do first come first served?

I propose that we can only have one special character per 50 people, as to make sure we are not flooded with special characters. The leader is an exception, as well as mayhaps one or two extra helpers at the beginning.

I also propose we all know how to scale this all. If we were going to paint the story of a person, we would give great details to that person. If we were going to paint a city, we would have detail on the city but the people within would look more blotchy and lack detail. If we were going to paint a country, we would detail the country, keep the towns and cities as blotches and not even touch on the people unless they were important.
This city is not about you. As long as we remember this, we should be fine.

I agree. Toady is a real person. Rename him Tekud Toadworship.

There should be an order... Er, hang on.

Edit: Yeah, right. Well. I dunno.

Regardless of who takes the turn, have some half-elf natives drop by. Non aggressive. Have them trade beads for some tools, or something. Also, have someone find out we're here- the current back story suggests no one knows (which is extremely implausible- a poor farmer, or even a rich merchant, could never afford to found a settlement in the new world.)

Found, no.  Settle, yes.
You'd have to have money to found the place, and buy equipment and supplies and a ship and such, but you could also sign on as an indentured servant, or buy shares in the colony company, yeah?  Heck, not all of the investors even have to go along, they would just want to see a nice return on their investment.

How about "It's just another colonization effort, open to all settlers and investors, organized by Tekud Toadworship, follower of the great Toady One.  Stock starts at 10 dorfbux a share.
Buy DwarfHut magma pizzas, they're funding my expedition.  And Crazy Stan McUrist's Used Ship Emporium is offering me a discount for dropping their name...".

Anyway, what's a suitably Dorfish way to settle turn order?

Half-elves?  Who would want to breed with an elf?  Or is it that the elves' speed bonus makes them too fast to run away from, or do herbs make really good roofies?

If it's female, then I would.  ;D

Uhm.. sorry for going slightly off-topic there..

And I agree with NUKE that we should change Toady's name into something.. like he suggested.  :)

First in first served (it works on the dnd forums)

I propose that we can only have one special character per 50 people, as to make sure we are not flooded with special characters. The leader is an exception, as well as mayhaps one or two extra helpers at the beginning.

I don't agree with this, it makes them as rare as hero characters. I'll put it down to 3 to 50 if you want.
