Oh, I thought you were doing a Let's Play of a game called Discussion.

Or, setting up a forum game of reasoned and witty discussion.
Which would be an interesting novelty.  Maybe we should set that up sometime.

Anyone know of some sort of strategy RPG thing with player-generated characters? I'm thinking about doing another LP.

Today I actually came across the perfect game.  Plus, the author is distributing the sequel for free, so I can link right to it!  Here ya go: http://www.codedread.com/games.php#TNO

It's called Ten Nights of Killing and Mayhem at FJB, in which you create and name a group of high school students, who you lead against their evil, demon-possessed teachers.

MANDATORY DISCLAIMER:
It's just a game.  Don't harm you teachers.  Demons don't exist, and that won't convince any jury alive.
END MANDATORY DISCLAIMER

I was actually planning on running it myself, but I'll gladly give it to you.

EDIT: Fixed Link.

What do you guys think about the idea of making some sort of league for a game and then playing versus matches of it online? We could do Tactics Ogre or even (may the man-gods forgive me) Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It'd be awesome.

Sorry, I don't usually play games that need emulation.

But, it'd be fun to watch!

Gearhead and Imperialism were pretty good.  I didn't think Gearhead 2 was finished though.  And by not finished, I don't mean Dwarf Fortress not finished.  I mean not finished not finished.

I heard there was a way to get Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP multiplayer working over the internet, but I've no idea how.  I'd be kinda interested, though.

Myself...I don't know, I've never Let's Played before, but I've got a few games I'm am interested in Let's Playing.
What would I need for a Let's Play?  Print screen?

Gearhead and such has already been mentioned.

Hidden Agenda is like a much earlier, mostly text based, DOS, version of Tropico.  And rather more depressing; it was designed by a political scientist who wanted to educate people about the horrible state of affairs in South America.  I might crack it open and give it a try some time.  Not sure.

The two main ones off the top of my head, though they'd probably be harder to do...

Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13
Strategic/Tactical Turnbased Mercenary action.  You've got to hire and lead mercenaries to liberate Arulco, a South American (?) nation from it's dictatorial queen.
Got just about every firearm you can imagine.

Alien Logic; Skyrealms of Jorune
I haven't played it in ages, but I really loved the setting.  Hard as heck for me, back when I was a squirt, though.
You've got an overreaching quest to find and defeat the Red Shantha, and recover your fellow colonists, but most of the game is just about exploring the world.

Probably better just to look it up, but here's my compressed summary.
It's on the world of Jorune, about three thousand years after the human colony lost contact with earth and fought an apocalyptic war with the native Shanthas.  Civilization is just starting to come back out of the Dark Ages.
Things that are different about Jorune;
Magic; Jorune has an energy field that allows magic.  The main character of this game is a human mutant that can use this magic.
Races; maybe a dozen or so of them.  Humans, human mutations, genetically engineered human-animal hybrids (remember, this was back before people knew what furries were, and just thought "Dude!  Genetic Engineering!  Bodacious!"), native Shanthas...
Genetic Engineering; one of the bits of ancient Earth-tec you get to use in the game.  You can breed little reco-blobs to serve you as miners and doctors, mostly.

There could be a thousand Let's Plays of X-Com: UFO Defense and there still would not be a complete Let's Play of X-Com: UFO Defense.

Would love to see an LP of this, had it back in the day when I owned an Atari (STFM) but never really got anywhere.

Okay, so...how does one Let's Play, anyway?  Print Screen?  Or does DOSBox have it's own picture capture function?
And then...what, I have to have an imagehosting service, or know someone who does?

I recently read the documentation with DosBox to learn Ctrl+F5 causes Dosbox to perform a screen capture.

Thus, with no other screen capture capabilities, anything I'd play with DoxBox just jumped up a lot in probability.  Many modern games feature a screen capture command in the game.

Too bad I can't/won't run the games currently requested with DosBox... :(

Sadly, X-Com: UFO Defense is played via other means, and thus doesn't feature the screen capture.

Jagged Alliance 2...I almost bought that from Ebay.  That probably doesn't sound like much, but I really don't buy games these days.  So, that would be fun to see.

Alien Logic; Skyrealms of Jorune...what kind of game is that?  Real-time strategy, action, first-person rpg?  Sounds like a good game for an LP.

Hidden Agenda...thank God you said that!  I'm been itching to play that game for the past week, but couldn't remember the name!  It would make a decent LP, but the graphics are pretty ugly (game was made in late '80s, and it wasn't designed to have good graphics, considering what kind of game it was).

I like Hidden Agenda too. The graphics are actually pretty decent, considering the fact that they were black and white pictures. I really like the biased news articles too.

Servant Corps: Yeah, I guess you're right.

Wild Goose: I forgot to mention, GearHead 2 is beatable!  It's currently playable from beginning to end, although it's still kinda a beta.

I might have to give that a try sometime.  I played a bunch through Gearhead 1, and I kinda liked.  Never did get around to loading down my mech with nukes, unfortunately.

I didn't get to play Hidden Agenda much.  My copy was glitchy, I think.  I did play through once and get grenaded in a coup, though.
It is a depressing game.  I'm kinda glad they didn't make a modern version.  It'd be like...Darfour, with next-gen graphics of women and children starving to death and people getting gunned down.
Man, maybe the eighties weren't that bad...

Alien Logic is a real-time, mostly third person RPG/Adventure game.  No stats, beyond injury and known spells.
One of the complaints is that it can get a little aimless, since there really aren't too many quests, beyond "Save your kidnapped villagers and stop the Red Shantha, but don't worry, take your time.".  So, from what I recall, it's just a lot of exploring, talking to people, a bit o' grinding, and watching Miles Teves artwork go by.
Okay, I don't know how involved he actually was in the computer game, but looking him up nowadays, he apparently worked with Andrew Leker (no idea what he's up to, these days) on the pen and paper Skyrealms of Jorune game back in college, the graduated and did artwork for just about every geek movie out there; Robocop, Spiderman, Pirates of the Carribean, Riddick...
It's a pity, I'm having a hard time finding a lot of Jorune stuff.  There are a few websites, but most of them seem pretty old.  I thought the setting was pretty cool.

Jagged Alliance is fun, I think in part because I'm a gun geek.  My main weapon now is the M21 with Picatinny Rails, but until then I quite enjoyed using the M1891 Mosin-Nagant.  I just think there's something funny about using a 19th century rifle in combat.
The tactical system's pretty nice, probably about as refined as turn-based tactics get.
One irritating point for me is that the computer soldiers seem to get more action points than my guys (which might be explained by the fact that I keep finding speed on their bodies), and by the fact that they seem to make really improbable shots.
One good thing about this one for a forum Let's Play of this is that I can optionally create a number of custom characters.  Originally, it was only one, to represent your guy, I guess.  The mod raised it to a default of six, and I can increase it further if there's demand.  They tend to lack personality, and there's a limited and not that great selection of portraits and voices for them, unfortunately, and I don't know how to change those.  But they don't take a salary, which really eases cashflow problems.
The AIM and MERC mercs that you can hire, though, tend to have a bit more personality, and lots of their own dialogue, which can be nice.  I've heard if you've got mercs who don't like each other in the same sector, and their morale drops enough, they'll try to kill each other, though I've never had it happen.

I think Alien Logic might be a bit easier for me to LP, since it's in DOSBox and everything.

Heh, I remember in the first Jagged Alliance, if you hired Hurl and Ivan, you'd find Hurl dead the next day.

Just give me a guy with sunglasses, and I'll be happy!
