It's actually a cylinder.

Anyway, you can sorta get a sphere by just sorta... shifting them to the same side north-south-wise but halfway across the world east-west-wise. Naturally, try taking a cutout of that "sphere" and overlay it onto a sphere and you get overlaps on the poles, but whatever.

I saw the Donald Trump avatar and thought "oh yeah, sounds about right".

My friend and I have just started recording ourselves playing modded Minecraft (the FTB Infinity pack).  He's never played with mods before.  In fact, he's only ever played vanilla from several years back - before they introduced The End.  Introducing him to FTB Infinity was like introducing an over-caffeinated child to a kaleidoscope.

"What's this?"
"That's a flower from the Botanica mod, it..."
"What's that!?"
"That's a giant volcanic mountain that generates as part of the Biomes O Plenty mod, which..."
"WHAT'S THIS THING?"
"What?  Oh, wait, that's an enderman, don't look at-"
*death*

It's quite entertaining.  :P

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I fiddled around with custom settings a little but it's hard to tell what anything does. I'll look for some details on the wiki or whatever, someone smarter than me is bound to have figured it out by now.

There's a bunch of packs on the FTB launcher you could try, although they're mostly geared towards higher-end computers.

I was hoping for something a bit more specific than "try random modpacks" since there's no way to judge quality or how well the mods are tuned to each other without spending a dozen hours in each one.

But I did download the FTB launcher and am trying the Departed modpack. This is probably a bad idea since, on top of being straight up a lot harder than vanilla, I'm completely unfamiliar with all the mods in it. Yeah, it's not a tech pack, but the description intrigued me. Though, if the whole point is focusing on "exploration", I would have liked to not have to need a home base to return to, or else a base that you can return to easily (like pocket-dimension easy). I noticed this aspect is something people mentioned a few pages ago in the thread, albeit about where vanilla went rather than modpacks.

i wouldnt go for the super duper megapacks if i were you. they're 90% bloat and you dont have any idea what you want to do.

what sort of modpack do you want?

remember that technic and ATlauncher are also things

As an addition to miauws question, do you want tech or magic? You can have both, but like he said those ones are super bloated. Easier to use one kind or the other first.

"Mega" modpacks aren't a problem for me, just a matter of the learning curve.

As I mentioned when I first asked, I'd prefer tech. I was basically looking for the equivalent of tekkit that runs on something more recent than 1.6.4 since it doesn't look like tekkit itself would ever get updated. (I'm aware of tekkit legends but losing thermal expansion is a bit of a hit on its techness.)

Mostly I was looking for opinions on well-rounded/well-tuned modpacks focusing on tech, rather than having to waste time trying them myself. It's no big deal if no one can recommend any from personal experience.
