People complain that since there is so many mod comments, there should be threads separately for vanilla and mods. But then there are people complaining about the threads being separate. Considering there is more content in mods than vanilla and it's reasonable to assume that more people play with mods than just vanilla, I don't really see the point in separating them.
I wasn't around back then, but I think both threads used to be more active? Separating them probably made sense then; these days, there's not too much discussion about mods or vanilla, so having a second thread is a bit silly.

The mods thread is like the trading thread: It pretends to be dead for long periods of time, followed by brief necromancy and complaints that its being used and leaving the vanilla thread to flop into the higher page numbers.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Basically, the people that complained the most about people polluting this thread with mod talk. Then ran out of things to say about vanilla (obviously) and started posting over there. So this thread became "uh... is 1.x out yet?" every week or so while all the talk was over there. Then everyone got bored and neither thread got many updates. Then people started talking about mods here again, and nobody bothered to complain again.

Well anyway, has anyone else tried out the Hubris pack? Using nothing but magic mods has been pretty challenging. Ars Magica flickers are a good replacement for item pipes, the inventarium is a decent magical AE system. Right now I'm working through Thaumic Horizon's quest line for creature modification. I have a genetically modified pig who eats taint and restores the land to its normal biome, so there's that. I call him pig, because I'm not creative. My wife renamed him Herbert.

Also the End is apparently hugely expanded with hardcore ender expansion? I haven't even touched that content yet beyond poking my head in to see the dragon, going "nope nope nope" and recalling back home.

I've just started checking out a few new modpacks and I'm currently enjoying Regrowth (3rd party pack on the FTB launcher). Anyone else give this one a try? It's quite difficult to start (at least for me), but I've got myself established, got myself a little base, and am slowly working my way through the quests. Apparently some of the mods actually allow you to change the biome, so it is possible to genuinely change the world from the deserted wasteland it begins as into a happy, shiny, fertile land.

Apparently there are a few multiplayer servers running this modpack. Not at all sure what that would be like on a server, but I'm considering checking it out - would anyone want to join in?

I'm interested but I probably couldn't devote much time to it right now

I'm on a server with a couple friends doing a modified direwolf20.  All the fun expanded crafting of tinker's construct without making  you rely on it to survive.  A lot of the mods I've seen seem to add difficulty for difficulty's sake without actually making things more interesting.

Right now I'm beekeeping, it seems pretty fun but it's also a little confusing.  For anyone who's done forestry beekeeping, and please be as non-spoilery as possible, how complex is the genetics?  Is it just a matter of mixing the right breeds to get new ones or is it more complicated than that?  Are there recessive and dominant traits?  Should I break out the punnet squares?

Forestry genetics is pretty simple. It's just x + y = (probably x or y, chance of z instead) It's not as complicated as you're thinking.

Pretty much as described above. Traits can be dominant or recessive, though. Red is dominant, blue is recessive.

I pretty much just mash bees together until it finally gets the traits I want it to have, when I don't cave and just use the genetics machines.

But getting new species is usually as simple as that.

I had a showerthough. What if redstone was so useful for circuitry because it is actually a swarm of nanomachines? They ate all of the technology on earth and then deactivated, forming clusters in the ground, waiting for whatever programming activated them in the first place.

This links up with my wish that there is a mod that makes an omnipresent enemy that you have to avoid detection from long enough to combat it. The source could be from mars (red planet, redstone, duh) and you could be required to make advanced technology (which would attract more redstone nanobots) like in galacticraft to reach mars and attempt to destroy the swarm.

Someone please make this, I don't know how to code.

My plan is to take a look at one of the Regrowth servers this evening (GMT+1). If anyone wants to join in, send me a PM, or I'll just pop on alone for a while and see what's up, and post in here if I think it's something a few of us could enjoy invading. Just keep in mind, if you haven't tried Regrowth, that it's a total conversion mod. It's along the lines of TFC but not quite so difficult or hardcore. There's absolutely no ore, and no ex nihilo, but there are ways of getting everything you need using the various mods. I spend a few more hours playing last night and it's been a lot of fun. I've got myself a fort and a small farm, and I'm working my way through the quests, trying to learn Botania. Apparently I need to use either Blood Magic, Witchery, or Thaumcraft to start actually changing biomes. Actually, this modpack seems to act as a pretty nice tutorial for all these mods I've never managed to get into.

I might join you folks, although that heavily depends on time zones. You could make a thread to make organisation a little easier.
