Back then, obsidian didn't protect against blasts either.  If you had a wall of obsidian and a wall of iron, and exploded some TNT on the obsidian side, it would destroy the iron.  So these "pure obsidian cannons" would usually destroy their fixture, unless the whole structure were made of obsidian.

Bay12 dosn't seem to be organized enough.
We should do something about that.
The problem with the last one was less of being organized and more of never being decided what we where doing. If anyone want to do some kind of thing like this they need to forsake making it a community decided thing and instead go "we are constructing [Epic Stuff] at [Time] here [Server] and recording it as a timelapse, ask for white listing if you want to help."

Your name adds to the hilarity of quoting that.
I would like to help the timelapse, but i'm not really a good builder.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Last I had checked in on it everyone was still arguing about what kind of dwarven city because an underground one while appropriate would not be conducive to recording. Also no time was decided upon.

A good dwarven underground city could be situated part on the surface and part under the surface. Mind you, by under the surface i mean in a place where two ravines cross like this:
Code: [Select]
\   /
 \ /

And that makes a very good place to build an underground city, like that ravine city in skyrim. (wich was also a dwarven/dwemer city)

A nice open pit city with tiered levels would be cool, leading down to an arena or some kind of large public space. Possibly with magma rivers running down the sides, down each tier.

If you're goign to time lapse it, have the recorder use a texture pack that makes dirt and stone transparent.

Except for the fact that dirt and stone will probably be used to build it, well mostly stone but yeah. Anyway it would not be impossible to do, it would just take more work for the person timelapsing it. The biggest problem in the end is not the actually building, not the actual recording, and not the server to play on. Its the really hard part, IE herding the cats that are Bay12 into all agreeing on the same build at the same time and getting it finalized. Basically someone that wants to do it needs to say "this is what we are doing and this is when" and be final about it. Probably should be the person planning on recording the timelapse as they are the most important person as without them there is no timelapse.

Why not just have a vote on famous dwarf fortress fortresses? Boatmurdered is out of the question, given it is 2D.

So just pick an idea and say "This is what we will do" and carry on. :P

Only if you fill the city with Vilagers so you can watch them blithely walk into magma flows.

They are true dwarves.

Or, we point at a hill, shout some encouragement and let Bay12ers do their thing.
It's not gonna be cohesive, but it will be awesome. And in the end, isn't that all that really matters?

But the original thread had been opened up specifically so we could get everyone opinion, IE no we could not just say this is what we are doing. Plus figuring out a time is hard when everyone lives everywhere and have sleep cycles that are more like sleep pogosticks.

Hehe, i was just saying that the ideal place for an underground dwarven city would be like the intersecting ravines under brainsanded.
