They really are. It was a problem for almost the entire life of Planetside. The bottom line is that either the server sends the client location information on invisible things, which it must if you want any kind of effect (such as empty armor, floating swords, shimmers in the air, etc), or the server sends nothing.

If the server sends the information, then an enterprising person or persons can find it and use it. If the server sends nothing, then you get no effects.

Personally, I think he shouldn't give a damn. I don't see much use for making people who should be invisible visible. The only reason you would use them on a normal Minecraft server anyway is to fight mobs or griefing. And the latter would deserve to be caught in the first place.

Invisibility discussion: Observe World of Tanks.  Artillery pilots would cheat and modify their client, tweaking the graphics.  The result was that tracer lines would remain in place for a long time.  This made enemy artillery visible, as they would have a series of tracer lines tracing out from their position, and basically let you insta-kill any artillery without even seeing them first.

I'm not sure how they fixed it, they may have done checksums during launch to make sure all the data was identical.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to my set of pink armor.

Oh yeah! Dyeing!

Now we can have uniforms on PVP servers! Find some large-ish sources of rarer dyes and use them in a secret blend to colour pieces of armour. Mix-and-match colours in a pleasing way to encode a unique uniform.
