Do you have a dark space in your house/fortress/stronghold? I know the pain of working on something and Creepers just come out of nowhere. I built a huge tower (It still isn't finished...) And I wanted to make it dark but unfortunately Creepers spawned everywhere and I couldn't work on anything or sleep. So I had to put torches everywhere. I would suggest making sure you have no dark areas in your... place.

Also, about my earlier problem... Is there a program that mods Minecraft for your? That might the problem, I hadn't realized I was using it seems to be a texture patcher.

I also believe zombies still attack doors on normal. They just can't actually knock them down unless it's on hard.

I was swimming through a lake and on one of the edges it suddenly got deeper. I went down and saw that it was in a perfect rectangular prism shape, with the bottom two blocks both cobblestone around the edges.

What this is?

It's probably a partially buried dungeon. Try to dig up the sand below the cobblestone lining.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

It probably is. There's a single block of sand raised over the rest, which is probably where the spawner is or something. Also I haven't heard any mob noises so it's probably buried and doesn't have any room to spawn.
Spoiler: something like this (click to show/hide)
I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks!

Alright, I'll link to the thread and probably start this by tomorrow.

 Tombs Thread.

Basically, the rules are as follows:
 1. The main goal is to make a tomb. There needs to be something that looks like a coffin for said tomb at the end.
 2. No interfering with other peoples tombs. You can tap into whatever networks they used to transport water and magma, but generally you will need their permission before adding a wing to their tomb or a secret entrance to your own from theirs.
 3. Because of the ability to dig, one must be able to define what is diggable and what is not to ensure flow control. Thus sand and gravel are the only things that can be dug horizontally and tree trunks are the only things that can be dug vertically for hatches and such. The overland can be dug as you want for access. This rule only applies to people exploring the map, builders can do whatever they want.

You have a maximum of two days before the next guy who reserved a spot gets a chance.
You need to register to have the ability to save. Just load the map of the previous guy, make the changes to your own tomb without editing anybody else unless told, and post the new save after saving yourself.

We aught to bring this back.

Maybe just pick a region on a multiplayer map and have people co-op build all these tombs... we could even use real doors!

Although a pass-it-around would be fun as well.

I've hit a bit of a creative slump.  I recently finished the outside of Chateau Gizogin, my epic dual-tower home.  Now I need to think of something(s) to put inside it.  I have 5 completely empty 10x6x3 floors to fill (due to the way I have my stairs set up, the actual floor space is more like 9x5).  I already have a farm, a jail/dungeon, a library, a brewery, a (relatively unfurnished) bedroom, a crafting/smelting room, and a storage room.  There's also a Nether portal just outside.  What can I put in the remaining space?  There's already a community enchanting table on the server, so that's out (for that matter, there's a community brewery too, but I like having my own).

Oh, I also made a restaurant:

Paintings. Lots and lots of paintings.
Carpeting (colored wool) for the rooms.
Build an elevator out of pistons and redstone.
Fireplaces for the bedrooms (netherack).

Though keep in mind that fireplaces and carpeting do not mix. I learned that the hard way :/

I have one of those too.

EDIT:  I have no wool, unfortunately, so paintings and carpets are going to be a bit tricky.  I like the idea, though.

Yeah, that was pretty much it.

Another thing I typically install is a garbage disposal. In simplest terms, it's a hatch over a pit that either cuts off or leads to lava. You throw any unwanted items onto the hatch, press a button, items fall down and are out of sight, out of mind.

You can make wool from spider string, iirc.
