I know nothing about this, but here is a shot in the dark. Try first deleting all of the files in your minecraft.jar, then replacing them with the files in the zip. Or try opening the file with winrar.

By the sounds of it, the file is just being misread as the wrong type. Just rename it back into a .jar and see if that works.

True. I use IE on occasion, and I've never seen .rar files changing to .zip, or whatever else you're accusing it of.

As far as I know, not a lot is changing. The enchanting/potions are going in and The End will be there for realz...
