See, and then there was 8 posts about modded minecraft that got in before this one because I decided to check another thread for a utility I'm keeping an eye on.

But yeah, I'll make a thread for this discussion now. I really don't see why people are so against splitting the topics but whatever.

In hindsight I guess there didn't really need to be a discussion so much as "hey I'm making a vanilla minecraft discussion thread because this thread is packed with mod discussion".

Hey guys I don't think Vanilla is much fun because there is no endgame goal or direction and once you get 30 or so diamonds you have the top tier equipment.

Discussion: Fuck yeah splash potions.

Also, try building a large redstone contraption or epic castle on hardcore. The constant paranoid fear does wonders for your interest level!

I fully agree. Hopefully the full release adds something more to the end game (though I dont really feel that the ender dragon battle thing will really be all that fun). Otherwise, there are always the multi-tiered mods. IC2+BC+Equivalent Exchange+Redpower World (once it's complete) is IMO the ultimate combination for someone who wants to create insane contraptions in the end game, though maybe not for someone who wants a more combat-oriented endgame.

Hardcore mode never has interested me much. I don't enjoy having 12 hours of gameplay ended due to one mistake.

What an excellent idea! Although doing different patterns would be very difficult even with redpower. Hm... I guess you could make each pattern a color of cable and run a bundle to each light so you could light the cable colors in sequence, then have a logic system in the next room which switched between patterns.

You don't find the irony in this vs. putting an unfinished mod with crash capable bugs and constantly changing features/settings from third parties with varying programming skills on the game?  I'm not trying to poke at you... but it seems odd to me.

The pre-releases are essentially a formality. The Beta Test is already here.

Anyone seen this? It's pretty neat.  Basically people are making tiny pixelated videos in vanilla Minecraft now.
Almost as awesome as that guy that used redstone to program a Minecraft-like game in Mincraft.

Well, yeah, the dying sucks, but it's the risk that makes it so much fun. When you're hanging off a dirt bridge over a lava lake trying to get that last piece of redstone for your automated wall repairing circuit, and a skeleton starts flinging arrows at you... FUN :D

None of the mods I use crash minecraft... not really sure what you're trying to say here.

I've never really bothered with those super hostile maps, too hardcore for me.

It doesn't help that creeper sneak attacks tend to make me ragequit I suppose.
