It doesn't look like it. We're sorta having a 1.8 party and I saw a few with ore blocks. They probably can't pick up bedrock though.

Then again, we can't pick up bedrock either so no anti-ender houses for us. I don't think they can get metal blocks though.

How you enjoying Minecraft Akroma?  ;)

And for some actual content here is a cave render of a new map.

Seems mines are everywhere. I am okay with this. Cave exploring is half the gameplay, so having more options and features down there is always appreciated.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Or build a floating castle in the sky, with two portals to the nether, one inside it and one on the ground below. That seems like it would be mob-proof in general, given enough torches.

Also, this update may actually get me playing Minecraft again.  :o

the F key isn't working to change view distance and there's no sort of skill screen.
Uh...
The former was announced some weeks ago.  It's -removed-, because there really isn't any reason to change your view distance like that anyway.
The latter was yet again them not understanding the concept of a release date and cutting features to release it earlier.
Also announced about a week ago, to be part of 1.9.

I would almost feel bad about playing this if Notch hadn't publicly announced the update on his blog.

But anyway, I'm liking it! Very nice. Glass panes are great. Terrain is great. Haven't seen any towns yet. Creative mode is obviously magical. Et cetera.

Well, I don't know, SP is phenomenally more choppy for me on the same settings as SP on 1.7.3 was.

EDIT: Also thanks Psy for the seed! This is my first glance at a town. I love it!

I have a feeling I'll be forced to Short render distance until Optifine is updated.

Speaking of fog, I used the F key almost exclusively. What do you mean there was no point in it? I don't want to have to pause the game every time I want to change between beauty and FPS!

I just explored a mine with a fresh character down to lapis lazuli depth. I saw the light of it on the ocean floor and swam down to investigate. Poison spiders are challenging; I like them. And I love the new, more adventurous feeling that 1.8 has.

I don't care how creepy Endermen are, but being trapped down in an abandoned mine with 1/2 a heart of health due to poison and no food to regenerate your health with is awesome. And way cooler.

It seems that underground ravines and other features are way more common than npc villages. I haven't seen one yet.

So my seed "Psyberia" put me nice and near to a desert city!

Woot, nevermind. Off to see a town. Thanks!

Been screwing around with Creative Mode. Oh do I miss those days.

Anyway, I finally got around to doing some redstone experimentation along with pistons. It took too long for me to legitimately find redstone and make anything with the stuff.

I had some fun working on some light switch mechanisms for a cave system (though I still have yet to get the mechanics down), along with remote detonators involving pistons and TNT along with redstone. Good idea for hidden TNT-rigged traps (you think it'll open a door or something, but instead you hear a piston and then SSSSSsssss *BOOM*.

Other than that, I love the much more extensive set of blocks and tools you can use now. I wonder if anyone will be getting around to making a Creative to Survival converter? Seems likely. Good for testing out or pre-setting up scenarios and such.

I've noticed that I've been dropped into the mountains quite often and far away from any major water source. It was more common in the older versions to be near at least a good water source.
