If there were villages, I'd like them to be created by NPCs that have AI that basically tell them to "Collect material > build simple homes from built-in blueprint  > live in home" and I'd think that'd be totally awesome. Me = always asking too much.

Unless the NPC'less villages are meant to be rustic, abandoned villages uninhabited due to unknown cause, and I'd think that'd fit in thematically with the appearance of Endermen.

I thought the point of the villages being empty was the non-existance of the NPCs until 1.9.

I for one like the idea of Endermen occasionally picking up blocks and moving them around to build nests.
