How do I go about downloading a mod, but still being able to play on vanilla servers?
Copy your modded minecraft.jar somewhere safe for later, delete the original.  The EXE you launch (if you use the EXE) will download a new fresh copy and you are back to vanilla.  When you want the mods back, copy over that with your backup.

Now remember I don't want to play vanilla single player, just multiplayer. From what electronic said, I'm wondering now if having a mod (yogbox) installed will not affect vanilla multiplayer.

Most mods don't affect multiplayer at all.

It's a Java-based Infiniminer-like game.  So far you can dig around, create 4 types of blocks and just build stuff.
The block types don't do anything special, besides grass tending to spread onto sunny dirt blocks.  There's empty caves on the map, too.
I really like how smooth it runs for a Java applet, and that I don't need silly extra stuff to run it.
The future features, including multiplayer, also seem promising, such as survival mode where you have to eat and build, or fortress mode where two maps connect to each other to duke it out.

Been a long time since this, eh guys?

I finally caught up with this thread! Wow!

I had to say I'm really excited about Enders, I wonder if my friend has been keeping up with the updates? If not, he's going to be so surprised! It's going to be hilarious.

Enders are scary though, I kind of imagine them as otherworldly, supernatural beings. Quietly rearranging the earth and sand during the night, little by little. They are a collective hivemind, gradually bringing the bits of soil together, creating a strange structure, almost like a large temple. Left to their own devices, the temple grows, and more and more Enders spawn with each passing night, expediting construction. Soon enough, every fleck of sand and soil for miles around has been scoured for the gargantuan temple, now hundreds of yards in length and width, and stretching all the way to the sky box. Investigating, it would seem the temple serves no purpose, but as the Enders finally finish, large black letters appear on your screen...

THE END OF DAYS HAS COME!

That'd be pretty cool I think.

Nah, they stand looking at you and then die in a few hits.
And they drop diamonds.
And aggroing one doesn't aggro any others nearby.

Poison spiders are fucking scary though.

I finally caved and bought minecraft. Sadly though, my account hasn't been updated to premium. I think it probably just needs time ( I only bought it 20 minutes ago) but did anybody else have this problem when they first bought the game?

EDIT: %^$*#$^%&$*#@ It's still not loaded and I have no confirmation mail, but I think I did get charged for it. Nothing for it but to wait a little while.
I wish Mojang had better servers...
I'm told it takes up to 4 days to get a real premium account, but still, that kinda sucks. With steam you get what you pay for and then you can just install it whenever you want :\

When I bought minecraft, my account became premium in the first few minutes. But I have to admit that it was during indev time so the server load might not have been as great back then.

I ran "The Wizard Burgmund", "The Redmurk Mystery", and "The Four Towers" with 2 players, and they worked well enough to Livestream for folks to watch.

Isn't premium only for buyers who bought it in alpha?

Annnnd it still isn't up, 10 hours later...
I'm a little bit mad. If the transaction went wrong or whatever, there's NO WAY FOR ME TO KNOW before "5 business days" that my account truly didn't go through.
