Before Minecraft, I used to defend gamers all the time against accusations that they had outrageous senses of entitlement.

These days, I wouldn't be surprised if the Minecraft community DDoSed minecraft.net because Notch didn't send everyone hand-written birthday cards.

Amen. Seriously, it's been 2 months tops since his last update (maybe less, haven't been able to play since the piston update ), that's nothing. Hell, what forum are we on? Doesn't anyone remember Toady's year long hiatus due to the backend rewrite?
Further, it's not like we've been kept entirely in the dark; he has released regular shots of new features, mobs, terrain and objects, not to mention regular twitter posts discussing newly implemented items. If a developer goes completely dark for 6 months, sure, maybe then you have something to complain about, but 2 months isn't even worth noticing, especially with the info we are getting.

Notch updates incredibly slowly now, I'm not sure if there is some humongous hurdle when running a world-known game company with a handful of devs that I don't see, but Notch could pump out sizable updates weekly way back when. He was on his own, too.

 It was a much smaller game with much smaller demands. He also didn't need to think of any other factors as it wasjust a hobby.

The delay is for a few, well-known reasons.

First, there's a complete overhaul of the core game, near as I can tell. The Adventure Update seems poised to more or less redefine Survival mode, or at least vastly change it. Major updates like this don't happen overnight, people.

Second, even though they're source hacks, the game now includes a large number of mods. And, in part because they're source hacks, mods break on every update. Fewer, larger updates are therefore far better from a modding perspective.

Seriously, guys, take a break, play something else for a few weeks.

Allow me to add to Thexor's comment, somewhat related to #2:

Third, The faster the updates are, the more often server admins have to re-update their stuff, which leads to more downtime overall and less being able to just turn it on and let it run as usual. For a vanilla server this is trivial, but for anyone with modloadermp or bukkit (or if they use MyMcAdmin, or some other remote administration program), its a lot to do, and the remote administers might have to wait for it to get updated on the other end unless they have FTP or such.

To me, it seems like most of the previous updates were "This would be cool to add!" and the Adventure Update is "I will finish the game now."

How about people stop complaining about Notchs time before the last update. Its not going to help anything, it'll only rush Notch to try and please the fans, leading to less planning and the need to skip over bugs and flaws in devlopement, leading to a worse game. Notch can take all the time he pleases for all I care, just as long as I get my super awsome game.

Besides, it could be far, FAR worse. THis has been talked about before, but Toady took 2 years to provide the 2010 update, giving us very little info about it in the time. But when it was released, I could not even begin to imagine the celebrations, and how good it was all together. Notch has not updated for only 2 months and has kept us constantly informed. This is a far better then what Bay12ers had to go through.

But Toady is Toady, and we know how he works. Notch is Notch, and we don't know how he does stuff. With Toady, we always know he's working on the game. Notch, we don't know.

http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ gets info almost daily. Show me the equivalent from Notch and don't point me to Twitter. Toady gives us more than 140 characters. Notch's blog hasn't had any fundamental Minecraft changes since the bugfix a month ago and that's self proclaimed "95% Minecraft development."

2 years got DF more than a few block recolors. There were extreme changes in those two years.

I am not sure what you are trying to prove to me. It sound irrelvent to what I am arguing.

Also, you should check the Forums news site. It has quite a some info about the 1.8 update, including the fact that Notch is adding Hunger and Thirst as an optional extra challange in the game. Also, Notch said himself he wanted to keep the vast majority of the new update a secret, there will be some 40+ things added in it.

Its most likely the biggest update. You know, its almost like Notch has spoiled you with so many recent updates. I would like the update too, but I also have the patience to wait for it, so it can be so very awsome.

 I know there is more to a person than what they make videos about and she could very well be a very intelligent and talented worker for whatever job they have her for, but I have no damn idea what that would be. She spends a video figuring out wasd controls like it is something new to her. It takes her 50 episodes to finally reach diamonds. I understand that not everyone is a PC gaming veteran and that a lot of this stuff may be new to then, no problem to those who watch said videos and appreciate them. But such a person working at a game company? I dunno.
