I think it will pick up after N@T dies.

I think open will get more interesting soon as well. I have someone who's expressed interest in writing a plugin that will delete all but a narrow strip of blocks, effectively making the world a (slightly wider than normal) sidescroller.

The mods I've installed over at Jaycraft by nature do a good job of keeping griefers out.
Course, it also keeps our playerbase somewhat smaller, but that can be a bonus of its own.

Anyone think it's possible to make a (no hacks) greifer proof house? I can think of one if they didn't have access to diamond, but not if they had a diamond pick :(

Build an underground house, block of the entrance.

The real trick is to build really far from spawn. If the server has some sort of teleport/waypoint option, build your home like 8 days of overland travel from spawn and no one will ever find it.

Note that if this server makes maps, that is a bad plan.
Not only will it make a huge annoying outcropping on the map, but it can break a lot of the mapmaking programs.

And if you're going to build that far from anyone else, why not just play singleplayer?

Having your hard work griefed is sad so my stategy
is to consider it a challenge from the griefer. Apparently
he thinks my house was ugly so I need to make a
house so awesome and made of win that he won't
grief it.

I recently went on the Minecraft /b/ server (Insane right?), its un suprisingly a server without any rules, besides no hacking of course. It provided to be an odd experience, the spawn is blown up and there are no tree's in sight. You have to bury your base deep below ground and make sure its very well hidden. I remember mining down then finding an old base with a shit ton of diamonds in it, fun times were had after that.

None of those are grief proof though  :(

The closest I can think of is having a solid block of obsidian, hollow it out, and have a combination lock that stop a lava flow that covers an iron door and opens the door. And then hope that the griefer doesn't have a diamond pick.

You don't need a diamond pick to dig obsidian, only to collect the block.

Pointless, all the mechanisims can easily be messed with. And while it takes your hands a bit over a minute to break obsidian they can still break it.

Minecraft's mining mechanics are just completely broken in all regards anyway.
You wouldn't be mining the ore itself, but removing it from the rock.  Why does any ore take a stronger pickaxe than another?
Why is obsidian so hard?
Why is a solid block of diamond softer than said obsidian?

(Before you answer with "GAME ABSTRACTIONS" like I know you like to do -- you usually simplify things, not complicate them [however marginally])
