Did he say he was adding them?  I can't find that right now.

DF has experience too.

I hoped they wouldn't add the whole jRPG "player character" concept, but the first game version already had it :(.

Man, screw levels and XP and shit.

Note the tweet: "Yeah, the level generator isn't exactly tweaked for 512 height"

Somebody who has working copy and paste may want to show the accompanying image for that tweet. A wonderful rocky spire that is.

Well yeah that's how it is with the current resource generation. You will only really get coal above sea level. Would like the vanilla generator tweaked to raise the limit dependent on the height of surface terrain features.

And yeah, exp bar and food meter. Good stuff.

What would levels DO anyway? Damage is by
what weapon you use, digging is by what tool
you use, and well everything is by what tool you
use in the end. Maybe levels could make using an
item take less of its durability.
Health is another thing to improve I guess though
as displayed past a certain point you end up taking
to much of the screen space up with hearts. Maybe
some format where you have a number of extra lives
and when you die if you have lives left you don't drop
all of your stuff. That would be useful and something
that would get used up and thus not absurdly stack
to much with levels though I am sure he would want
a more permanent boost at level up.

No reason he can't have boosts on top of the usual tool stats. It is a funky thing to tool around with when you can justify it by the usual death dropping everything system. It's also weird to cite rogue likes as an inspiration when theynusually either have overly convoluted leveling and skill systems or useless leveling and skill systems next to the funkiness of items and equipment you can get. I foresee a bunch of weird things getting in akin to the terraria potions update.

The problem with boosts is that most things either
don't matter or matter in a way that you would not
want to change or upset game balance. Mining faster
is nice but you can't ever have a wood pick be able to
work just as good as a stone pick and be able to mine
stuff like iron ore. What good would a diamond pick be
if after a certain level an iron pick could mine obsidian
as well? People would just save the diamonds for armor
and weapons instead, I already don't bother with diamond
axe's, shovel's, or hoe's. Durability and speed are fine
but non-essential matters in the end. I use stone tools
for anything that doesn't require something better.
The leveling system will probably be connected to combat
anyway. Things like more durable armor and stronger attacks
would work. He already allows half a damage so if you say
lost your levels when you died then a boost of a half damage
a level would probably work fine otherwise you may need to
lower the damage added to every other level or something
for balance.

The problem with that is that 1) he hasn't done anything to allow that, just changed it so that everywhere that used to have a 128 in it now has a variable instead.  He made it easier to make taller maps.  That's all.  2) No changes to the ore generator.  3) Did I mention he didn't change anything?
That's all.  No optimization to anything, so going from 128 to 512 will quadruple your RAM usage and murder most PCs.
He needs to just drop the pretense and fix it so that the chunks are cubic.  God only knows there's nothing stopping him.

Not having seen the code myself I don't know if
that is actually true but honestly should have been
made that way or at least changed to that way
when he decided on an near-infinite game space.

I'm gonna need to see your source on this, who says that he just changed a few variables. You do realise that he also has to run minecraft on his computer too, he's not going to do this if it rapes his computer and it can't run. And who says he hasn't adopted the cubic idea, no one knows anything yet.

We've got a tiny bit of information, the stuff we know about is almost definitely not the only stuff being done.
