Apparently there's a new type of sapling in the game which seems to spawn on sand. However punching it yields nothing. I wonder if they grow anything...

That said, the world generation code doesn't appear to have changed, so there should be no giant exposed cliff faces or anything like that at the borders of your world. The only way I was able to determine where new chunks started was the presence of these saplings and the new tall grass.

What is this? I've seen it elsewhere, but I don't have the faintest clue as to what it means.

The tall grass and desert shrubs look hideous.  A texture pack made things a lot better, but I still don't like how the tall grass blocks are displaced slightly on top of their grass blocks.  They tend to stick out over edges and into snow this way. Blech.

Maps look kinda neat I guess, though I have no idea how to clone them.

I like the large amount of bugfixes though, that's always a good thing.

Can you map out caves using the map system? Or does it only work outside?

I hated the Wildgrass mod personally. I've already textured the wildgrass in to nothing.

It's possible to place single tiles of portal, and this works as an orgin for portaling. It's ugly and tempermental, though.

Still, having an emergency escape portal might be interesting. I wonder how well you could make it close after you pass through.

But if you can't see the tall grass how will you know where to look for pokemon?

I'm confused by this?  Single tile of portal?  You can drop an obsidian, set it on fire and create a portal?

An admin can spawn portal blocks as placeable blocks in SMP. They tend to disappear when something changes in an adjacent tile. I think what you could do is place a pressure plate, throw a block on it, then place the portal. Stand on the plate, picking up the loose block.

When you warp away, the pressure plate resets, removing the portal and leaving your pursuers behind- assuming they don't stand on the plate before you leave.

The tall grass is also required for getting grass seeds.
