Ladders don't take iron.  And remember that one log can produce one ladder recipe, plus a stick left over, if I do my math right.  Ten seconds at a tree = 40 or 80 pieces of ladder?  :|

It doesn't take me ten seconds to harvest 40 or 80 logs. What is your secret to extreme lumberjacking?

Chainsaws probably.

I know I use them extensively when 'jacking' lumber.

I think he's saying that if you use the recipe Aqizzar suggested, where they spit out 8-16 per recipe. Thus, 4 logs gives you 32-64 ladders, and 4 logs is doable with a diamond axe in 10 secs.

Just generated an amazing map. It has a sort of bay with a big E shaped hill looking over it. Said hill has big caverns with magma inside it. Is there a way to get the map seed from your saves?

I've noticed that I keep getting random scary noises, they're making me poop bungalows. Is this part of a new update or is it just the painterly pack?

Those are ambient noises and that usually means there's a cave nearby. Wiki says they require a 3x3x3 area of 0 light to play.

Has anyone else had some EXTREME LAG ISSUES when playing SMP?

As in, you join, and start falling, it takes entire minutes to load a few chunks, you can die from a mob across the map, blocks dissapear/reappear randomly...?

Having built a balcony with glass, I've noticed a huge swarm of monsters outside. Seems this is some spawning hotspot.

(assuming 7 empty inventory slots)
28 trunks (best taken 4 at a time) ~> 7 individual half stacks of sticks.
7 half stacks of sticks ~> 64 ladders (beta 1.5).


The last update made it possible to build from ladders which would have been great except that they made destroying blocks take the same forever they take when you're under water. So now it is possible to build from ladders but only if there is absolutetely no other way to do it.

That's not all. They also destroyed the elegant rule that shift keeps you from falling so I suspect you now have to be careful not to need it around ladders.
