I recently learned about The Far Lands. This stuff is crazy. I'm very glad Notch is choosing to keep it in. I really like the idea of these eldritch landscapes beyond the normal world where reality doesn't quite work as it should.

Here are some videos on the subject:

This man is attempting to walk all the way to The Far Lands. He is clearly insane given that walking to The Far Lands is estimated to take somwhere between 800-1000 hours, but that kind of absurd determination is what endears me so to Dwarf Fortress, so it should be fun to watch him encounter Fun. Then again, it takes 800-1000 hours in the Overworld...but he has access to the Nether.

And yes, the behavior of The Far Lands means that it is a fairly good equivilant to Glitch City.

Notch isn't choosing to keep it in, it's a limitation of the program...

Bugs as "features" is also a hallmark argument of DF players, and I for one see the allure of the Far Lands. If it was both left in, and expanded on with pointed unsettling elements (heck, just throw that Herobrine thinger out there), that could be even cooler.

Expansion of the "Horror" aspect of Minecraft via the far lands.

Hehehe.

Hey, I have a 1.4 version Minecraft, is it possible to download IndustrialCraft apply it and get rid of it if I don't like it by deleting a single file or clicking an option in the menu?

Backup the jar before you apply the mod.
This is pretty much common sense, but it gives you an archive for restoring older versions or whatever.

delete the JAR. then, if I understood it correctly, minecraft should download it again when you start it. I think. at worst, you will have to redownload the whole launcher.

Don't delete the jar, delete the file 'version.'

It'd be neat to have a Far Lands-esque map for a multiplayer server.

You can do that easily. Download BiomeTerrain and push the fracture stuff to ridiculous levels, you will get shit almost identical to Far Lands.

Yes, you can.
The only thing to watch out for is conflicting ID values.
But those can be changed so it's not much of an issue, as long as you don't install so many mods you run out of available ID values.
