I'm just asking since I have no idea if it's avalible. Does anyone know of a map generator that can generate specific biomes? I've been wanting to generate a huge Tundra/tagia map.
Well let's start with BiomeTerrainMod, which has settings for biome size, world temperature and snow threshold. The new thread seems to lack some info in the first post, so look for a link to the old thread for more info on the mod itself. It's kinda fidgety, so back up your modded .jar, add this mod to a clean .jar then add your modded .jar. If this doesn't do what you want I'll look around for alternatives.

Good question. Maybe because it's often near the water, spawns in smaller amounts than dirt, is usually prone to less extreme formations, and has no chance of being occupied by a tree or pig?

I thought about it earlier and I think it's because it can only be above ground. Right?

Answer is already above.

Anyway, it might be silly to only be able to spawn on sand, but you have to think about it. Either he makes it only on sand, saving him tons of time that would otherwise be spent on having the map gen dictate a spawnzone with only such and such conditions, or not and do all that to add something that wont matter to anyone.

The only problem with the sand thing is if you spawn in the middle of a desert.

That can get bad I imagine.

I spawned in a desert once.
Not too hard.
I just went in one direction and cut down some trees.

Biomes are not large enough to really pose a resource issue. Not yet anyway.

And deserts are not terribly common. There is probably more sand that isn't underwater on beaches than deserts in any given world.

You want to know why minecraft has such huge chunk error problems?

Notch is using the serialization implemented by Java.

It's not made for rapid copying of chunks onto the older version of the chunk.

He needs database software. Or his own serializer.

(pasting everything into large files a la mc region is just not gonna cut it.)

The non-graphical "mods" for Minecraft are much more like hacks at the moment, but Notch seems to be alright with that for now. The individual modifications should probably tell you where to put the proper files.

I also have had trouble with a mod, I followed the instructions for SDK's gun mod for Mac and it just got stuck on "Done loading" after I was done.
Help please.

And deserts are not terribly common. There is probably more sand that isn't underwater on beaches than deserts in any given world.

I've noticed it depends on world. I think the temperature and rainfall stuff is rendered across large areas and dictates a number of biomes, so if those don't line up right, deserts won't be very common.

I play on a private SMP world that has quite a few deserts. I live in the tail end of an absolutely large stretch of what can only be described as a wasteland. Huge, nearly-treeless plains intermixed with gigantic deserts. You can travel for thousands of tiles along it and only come across a couple small patches of trees.

But yeah, none of them are particularly wide enough to pose a resource issue. At most, you're only 200-300 tiles away from trees or anything else you need that you can't get in deserts.

Maybe someday biomes will be bigger.
